Cabin Fever

October 23, 2007

Somebody help us!!! We haven’t been out much lately and we’re losing our minds. Since Ryan, Miles and Asher have all been sick and I then got mastitis (if you don’t know what that is, no worries, it’s a nursing issue that I won’t get into here), we have been pretty much home-bound for over a week. This makes for mush brain and a sense that the world has stopped, even if we know it hasn’t. Ryan said, “today has been really weird.” And I said “yeah, I know; like one big bunch of busy nothing.” Sometimes life with two small people is a lot like the movie “Groundhog Day” where Bill Murray keeps waking up and repeating the exact same day over and over. My friend Kate said this to me after I had Miles and I couldn’t agree more. Get up, feed little mouths, dress little bodies, play, scold, chase, diapers, lunch, nap, chase, play, scold, dinner, wash little bodies, books, bed…. repeat. Yeah, sometimes it feels like that, but at the same time, every day is something brand new. It isn’t every day that you hear someone say “the skunk goes in the woods. Skunk butt stinks.” – Miles. And then there’s the other little guy, learning how to clasp his hands in front of him like he’s constantly so pleased with whatever entertainment is currently in his view (i.e. dog, brother, mom doing dishes, daddy playing with brother…).
With my little snippits of time here and there, I step out into the land of movers and shakers by taking a peek at a couple of blogs I’m addicted to. My friend Kelly has two – her family blog and her food/cooking/restaurant blog. She also got me hooked on her cousin, Sabrina’s blog about life. This blog also includes recipes and restaraunt information. I love the food ideas and the stories. Both of these girls are seriously funny and wonderfully articulate. So much fun to read. Take a peek when you need a pick-me-up. I’ve included them in my link list.
Today I applied for a position at the University of MN Medical Center, Riverside campus. (Used to be Fairview Riverside) I would work as a Psych Assistant, hopefully one day a week and every other weekend. We could really use the money what with Christmas coming and with the paying of Asher’s birth bills (ouch). And it would be good for me to rejoin society here and there. Not that moms can’t do that without working, but I think it can be good to have something of your own. So I’ll give it a shot. Hopefully I can get hired. Then we just have the daunting task of finding part-time, reliable, quality daycare. Easy peasy….
Oh! I have to mention here that last night at dinner, Miles may have been losing his mind over the cabin fever. He was eating his hamburger and talking to the bun. He looked down at some mashed up ground beef and said (to the bun, mind you), “oh gosh, sorry… I ate your dog,” and then he looked down at the beef like it was all very sad.
See? Something new every day.
