We wagied (or strollered)

February 8, 2009

At the exact same time that Tuesday’s loved ones gathered and joined in a “wagie ride” parade in Parker Colorado to celebrate her life, we walked our streets.

I felt that if I turned to my left or right I would bump right into those of you all over the country sharing in one big “wagie ride” parade in honor of Tuesday’s life.

Thank you Lee and Em, for having the idea for a parade. It’s beautiful.

We walked to an intersection with a mailbox.
Where Miles had the honor of mailing the money that was raised for Tuesday in this post.
He called that envelope “the special mail.” I was so moved by that, I nearly dropped him.

Because so many of you spread the word about our little fundraiser across the blogosphere, we were able to send a check to the Tuesday Fiona Whitt Memorial Fund at the same time that we participated in the “wagie ride” for Tuesday. I have no words for what this was like. An honor just doesn’t seem quite enough, but it was definitely that and so much more. Having the memory of this “wagie ride” day will help me to never forget the Whitt family and their beautiful Tuesday. And so, I will continue to pray.

To see more photos of “wagie rides” across the country (and beyond), please click HERE.

(I know they don’t want this, but I need to say a BIG thank you to our family members that contributed to our fundraiser. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to do this. So thank you.)

So beautiful Heather. I love that this kind generosity is being instilled in to your boys too. That “special mail” will be a great memory for him.

Oh Heather – why didn’t I know you until now? Your fundraising post was incredible. Your words are so beautiful, your tribute to Tuesday so giving and wonderful. This story obviously stuck with me too as you said in your previous post. I can’t get little Tuesday and her brave mama out of my head.

Thank you so much for joining in on the parade…check back at MWOB later in the week for a video montage of the parade from start to finish – it should be awesome.

Have a Happy Sunday with your family…

Lee

Thank you so much for this! I am sick (again!) and missed church today so it was so good to have the spiritual uplift!

It is our love and kindness to those we do not know (or know as well as we’d like) that exemplifies us as human beings. It is through that love, that outreach, that reflection of our hearts–that we transcend the common self and become more. Thank you for helping each of us, in our way, to strive towards that. You have my respect, always.

Tuesday and her family come to mind often…this is such a sweet, sweet tribute to a sweet little girl. And Miles…what kid just melts my heart.

I can just hear him: “I’m just a kid!” Anja didn’t get it but I did. :)

WHat a beautiful way to remember a beautiful child. I’m so glad that you all got to experience this together today. The Whitt family has been in our prayers.

This is really beautiful. Delivering your special mail while you celebrate her life.

You’re great. I pray that her parents will feel the love and support of people like you, as well as that of their Father.

And I’m sorry I wasn’t around and missed out on all of this.

That’s beautiful… I love how “other-focused” you are… you inspire me daily :) (oh, except for the wanting another baby part… I’m not there yet!)

Thanks for all you did. And a great outing you had! Love from South Africa.

Special Mail is the very best. Wagon rides are pretty amazing, too. But the wanting a third baby? Umm… not so much over here. We’ll settle for two. It’s that whole man-to-man versus zone defense thing.

charrette February 9, 2009 at 8:16 am

This is beyond wonderful. This is one of those things we all love about you. And the synchronicity of events is no coincidence. Hooray for wagie rides and special mail and giving hearts!

My three no longer fit in a wagie…they barely fit in our SUV! But we were thinking of you! :)
