Friday~April 10th, 2009

There’s no 7 Quick Takes over at the Conversion Diary today, but I had to do them anyway. There are just too many small bits of information in my head that need capturing.

Ready? GO!

1. I can’t believe I have not eaten even ONE Cadbury mini egg yet this Easter season. I have eaten about four packages of Peeps all by myself, but still no mini eggs. What gives?

2. Spring is almost all the way to Minnesota now. The sun is coming out to stop the snow and the air is moving it’s way above 40 degrees. One thing I love about having such stubborn winters is how their death and darkness are always completely destroyed by spring renewal. It’s truly miraculous, refreshing, powerful, and somehow it changes me. Every year. Just in time for Easter.

3. And spring makes me want to do something good. For only $10. You can too, if you’d like, by supporting Compassion International’s Malaria Intervention fund, helping provide mosquito nets to prevent malaria. Can you believe that a simple net can save a life? Read more about it at the Mother Letter Project.

4. I had a whole lot of confidence in my parenting skills up until Miles (my first) was about 3 and a 1/2 years of age. Then something happened and it seems I’m constantly being thrown for a loop. So now I’m pretty sure none of us knows what the heck we’re doing. We just try to do our best with what we know. That’s why I love Debbie’s post so much today. Another great reminder to stop comparing ourselves to something that doesn’t exist.

5. I’ve decided to have my blog redone and I’m so excited! It should be ready to go in a week or two. I just need to simplify. You know, spring cleaning and all that. Many of you know I have attention issues, and my blog kind of over-stimulates me. It’s time to get back to basics. Basics are good. Stay tuned! (I know, you can hardly stand it.)

6. Did you know that Ryan’s brother is an incredibly talented drummer who rocks the party with The Bad Plus (a famous jazz trio that will blow your mind)? Well, he’s also keeping time for Halloween, Alaska. They have a new CD coming out, and tonight Ryan and I will head out ALONE to the release party. I’m so excited! (Take a moment to check out both of the clips I’ve linked to here when you have time. Seriously good stuff.)

7. My boys left this morning to go stay with my parents. We’ll join them tomorrow. This has never really happened before, an overnight with both boys and neither mom or dad there. But I have to say, the quiet around here today is much needed (and also kind of eerie).

Have a good weekend, peeps! Happy Easter to you and yours.

I am literally sitting here at work, with a bowl of Mini Eggs in front of me. SOOOO good.

Can’t wait to see the blog makeover!

Steph @ Diapers and Divinity April 10, 2009 at 9:39 am

Oh my goodness, Heather! A day OFF? Take naps, play with your blog, take a walk in the sunshine, and eat plenty of Cadbury mini-eggs! You desereve it!!

Tooj April 10, 2009 at 10:20 am

I bought a bag of eggs and ate them all. Myself. I was proud. Ever since T.O. turned 4, I have started to question. It’s bizarre. I am excited to see your blog facelift. And nervous…I have a thing about change sometimes. :) Happy Friday, Happy Easter.

pam at beyondjustmom April 10, 2009 at 10:38 am

Wow– your hubby is a rock star– how cool is that?
Enjoy your 24 hours without little ones.
Happy Easter to you!

Kim April 10, 2009 at 10:56 am

I haven’t had any cadbury eggs either…weird. I might have to go buy one today. But, then I’ll have to buy 3 and those two kids make such a huge mess with everything they touch. So…maybe I just won’t.

How nice that your folks are close enough for a sleepover. I am jealous. Have fun! :)

Happy Easter my dear friend!

Muthering Heights April 10, 2009 at 10:56 am

Enjoy the quiet…just try not to miss the boys too much. :)

Mama Zen April 10, 2009 at 10:57 am

Don’t worry, I’ve eaten enough mini eggs for both of us!

Enjoy the quiet!

Heather of the EO April 10, 2009 at 11:00 am

Pam, No! Ryan is not a rock star (well, he is in my book), but it’s his brother that’s the actual musician :) Just so I’m not confusing everyone…

Jenn@A Country Girl's Ramblings April 10, 2009 at 11:23 am

Oh, Cadbury eggs! I need a couple of those right now!

sara April 10, 2009 at 11:32 am

did you know I don’t like cadbury eggs or peeps? I know, I am weird!

enjoy your evening out. Steve and I have always tried to keep a date night throughout our marriage and we usually try to take a weekend a year just for us! So important!! enjoy!

Happy Easter!

Beck April 10, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Having Easter happen every year just as the snow and the cold finally gives up its grip on us IS pretty powerful.

Something I’ve found is that you do find your parenting footing again at some point, but there do seem to be these moments for most mothers that are really, really challenging.

Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting April 10, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Blog makeover, squeeeeeeeee! :)

You have a day off. I am so green with envy!!! Enjoy it for the both of us!!!! :)

CC April 10, 2009 at 1:04 pm

No kids for the night? Sounds awesome!!

And “way about 40”. Ugh!

happygeek April 10, 2009 at 2:40 pm

I was just thinking today how much more I appreciate the newness of spring having done the long long long winter.
Enjoy your child-less evening!

Jen April 10, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Oh my Goodness, a blog make-over and a kid free weekend. How FABULOUS!!!!!
I totally can’t wait to see the new look. I have been thinking about a new look too.

Mommy Mo April 10, 2009 at 7:51 pm

I can’t wait to see your new look.

Make sure to keep your panties on and don’t throw up onstage at the “release” party.

I’m giggling right now. I’m so juvenile.

Kate Coveny Hood April 10, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Can’t wait to see the new look!

Debbie April 10, 2009 at 9:55 pm

I’m excited about your makeover. Don’t let them put too much botox in the blog – I like seeing the emotion.

Heidi Ashworth April 10, 2009 at 10:01 pm

You should really be enjoying your evening alone right about now . .. (or at least you had better be!)

wendy April 10, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Have a good Easter yourself my dear. Enjoy your peace and quiet for awhile –you’ll be surprised what you HEAR in all that quiet. AND –no Cadbury eggs, are you ill.

a Tonggu Momma April 11, 2009 at 10:36 am

My husband will be thrilled to hear of the blog make-over! He feels like he has ADD whenever he pops over here. (And what does that say about me that it doesn’t bother me? Hee hee.)

Wendi @ Every Day Miracles April 11, 2009 at 11:36 am

Oh! Enjoy your alone time!!! That is awesome Heather!

I get really giddy over blog makeovers. Yeah – even other peoples. It’s exciting. Does that say something about how often I actually get out and what a life I have? Hope not… ;)

blueviolet@A Nut in a Nutshell April 11, 2009 at 7:07 pm

Looking forward to seeing your blog makeover and I hope it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Happy Easter!

Betty April 11, 2009 at 10:29 pm

Thanks for the links, enjoy your time with your hubby and can’t wait to see your blog redo.

Kazzy April 12, 2009 at 1:55 am

Yeah, my blog is pretty simple too. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I’ll bet you have a pretty short Spring/Summer relatively, huh? Maybe it makes you appreciate it a lot more.

Have a terrific Easter weekend!

kel April 12, 2009 at 8:32 am

Can’t wait to see your new blog!!! And enjoy your quiet time, girl! You’ll be wishing for it later!!!

minnesotamom April 12, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Happy Easter to you, too, Heather–hope you enjoyed your time alone with Ryan!

Mike April 12, 2009 at 3:59 pm

I don’t know what I’m doing, too. But don’t tell my kids. They think I know everything.

Fun that way, huh?

Happy Easter.
