I can wear my blog now

May 4, 2009

Monday~ May 4, 2009

Yesterday I went shopping. This is astounding really because I NEVER shop. Well, groceries and all that, sure. But clothes shopping? No way. I had to face the music though, I really don’t have much to wear, and if I’m ever going to look even slightly cute-ish again, I’ll have to shop for a few things.

Shopping makes me feel all weird. I just hate spending money, and I don’t like this stage of life in which I find myself stuck in the middle with no options. You know that whole thing where all the clothes out there seem to be for either a pre-teen or a grandma (No offense, Grandma. There’s nothing wrong with your clothes, they just wouldn’t look right on me.) .

Anyway, it all turned out OK in the end because I came across a clearance rack and something jumped out at me.

It was my blog!

No, it’s not exactly like my blog, but humor me, mkay?

Now that I see a picture of it, I realize the bird appears to be kicking it’s tail end up in the air, like a bucking bronco. But I don’t think that’s what the designers were going for. I think it’s supposed to be a peaceful, lovely birdie, all Spring-like and cheerful. You know, like my blog.

I brought home my blog sweater and pulled it out to show Ryan. I’m sure most husbands would roll their eyes or shake their heads, but not my man. He was all excited, saying how uncanny the resemblance was to my blog. I’m sure he wasn’t humoring me at all…

Anyway. At least I bought something. Even if it just basically confirms what a big blog geek I am.

I wonder if anyone will spot me on the street now and compliment how my blog matches my sweater?

(That was a joke, hardly anyone not that many people read my blog, and even if they did, I’m pretty sure they’d steer clear of a crazy person who wears something that resembles her blog.)

Ryan and I went to see The Flight of the Conchords last night with some very generous friends of ours. (It rocked. Those guys are hilarious.) One of those friends does read my blog, so I thought about wearing the sweater to see if she would catch on. I didn’t though, because knowing her, she would catch on. And then she would have to fire me from doing anything with her ever again. So I didn’t wear it.

Wait. I just realized that I finally got something new, and now I’m going to be paranoid about wearing it!

Oh well, I guess I can still wear it around the house. Ryan likes it. I think…

No way, how was the Conchords!? We wanted to go when they were in CA but they were sold out and the tickets on Ebay were insane!! LOVE them! Love your new sweater too!

Erin May 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm

How fun! It’s kind of like both the blog AND your sweater were meant to be.

Don’t be paranoid wearing it. It shows that your blog and your mind have a kind of solidarity going on.

Heather@WoolandFlax May 4, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Love the sweater. You should wear it with pride.

Jennifer May 4, 2009 at 2:33 pm

I like your matching blog/sweater! If I ever find a creepy clown sweater that matches my blog–I’m getting it.

I love FOTC! Did they sing I Told You I Was Freaky? My fave!

Sheryl May 4, 2009 at 3:30 pm

are you SURE that’s a bird on your sweater?????

Kristina P. May 4, 2009 at 3:34 pm

That’s so funny! I bought the same sweater from Old Navy, but it has a firefly on it.

Reluctant Housewife May 4, 2009 at 3:34 pm

If I saw something that resembled my blog I would buy it immediately.

I love the blue of your sweater, too. Nice find.

LisAway May 4, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Hey! I want an EO sweater!! Where did you get it? (and do they have that store in Poland? Answer: No. :( But that would be awesome if we all bought the same sweater and you suddenly got even MORE famous and then rich after that.

I am at exactly the same stage when it comes to my wardrobe. I looked really cute about 5 years ago, but now all those clothes are faded and a little outdated. I could really go for a good shopping spree.

Megan@SortaCrunchy May 4, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Seriously! Where did you get that? It’s darling, blog resemblance and all. Love it!

And I also HAAAAAAAAAATE this in-between wardrobe stage of life. :(

Sarah@Life in the Parsonage May 4, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Did you get it at old navy?!? Man I love shopping too much. I need some of your attitude…here’s hoping you rub off on me ;)

mrs boo radley May 4, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Glad there was no firing of anyone.

I saw a similar tattoo on someone’s back the other day. Looked pretty sweet. Maybe you need a tat on your back.

What would my blog logo be? A bottle of apple cider vinegar? Let me know if you come across a sweater that has one of those on it, k?

Kate Coveny Hood May 4, 2009 at 3:40 pm

I think it’s a lovely sweater. And people aren’t observant enough to make the connection.

K and/or K May 4, 2009 at 3:50 pm

Does this mean I need to wear Chinese Lanterns? :-)

Heather of the EO May 4, 2009 at 3:59 pm

So many of you are telling me not to worry and to wear the sweater anyway. OF COURSE I WILL, SILLIES!

I was making jokes here, people. The sweater was just simply good blog fodder.

I’m off to wear to the park right now actually…with pride :)

Em May 4, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Someone is going to make a Twitter joke. Just prepare yourself.

I think it’s adorable!

nikkicrumpet May 4, 2009 at 4:03 pm

That’s hilarious that you are no paranoid to wear it! I think it’s really cute…and I think if it reminds people of your blog then that’s just a bonus! You should be very proud of your blog! hmmm that probably makes me a blog geek too. YAY for us blog GEEKS~!

sara May 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm

you crack me up!!

unfortunately I love to shop too much!

a Tonggu Momma May 4, 2009 at 4:08 pm

You are a trip. Seriously, girl, I hate shopping, too, but you need some help. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. ;)

I actually love the sweater though. That is one of my favorite shades of blue.

And now I’m trying to figure out if I would be able to find something Tongginator-ish at the local mall…

Jillene May 4, 2009 at 4:09 pm

I LOVE Flight of the Conchords!! **jealous**!!

Love the sweater–it looke EXACTLY like your blog!! (I am your favorite blog friend now–right?!)

Evolving Mommy Catherine May 4, 2009 at 4:12 pm

My blog header is pictures of me so I ear my blog all the time, I guess. Does that make you feel less “blog geeky?”

minnesotamom May 4, 2009 at 4:13 pm

I love the sweater! And…The Flight of the Conchords were in town and I missed them? That really, really stinks! Both Husband and I think they’re hilarious (if a bit dirty at times). Bummer…

Kate May 4, 2009 at 4:14 pm

Okay, this is just weird, because my friend Alison (of http://www.cluckandtweet.com ) and I were just talking about MAKING shirts to resemble Cluck and Tweet AND about how darn funny The Flight of the Conchords apparently is (she said it is hil-freakin-larious…I’ve yet to watch an episode). Wear that sweater girl!

Jackie @ Our Moments Our Memories May 4, 2009 at 4:41 pm

That. is. awesome. Not only that you found something to match your blog, but that you got it.

And I love the category you filed this under…”weirdness”…I might have to rip that one off, because its perfect. :)

charrette May 4, 2009 at 4:46 pm

Love the sweater.
Love your blog.
Love that you bought that.
Love Flight of the Conchords!
LOVE you!

and I PROMISE I will never wear anything remotely resembling my blog because it is completely generic!

Someday I’ll fix that.

Yeah.

Jenn @ A Country Girl's Ramblings May 4, 2009 at 5:05 pm

I bet that sweater looks cute with a pair of jeans! And I love your “weirdness” it makes me laugh and reminds me of myself!

3 Bay B Chicks May 4, 2009 at 5:06 pm

You do realize that the next step for your shirt must surely be getting “Heather of the EO, that’s me” embroidered on the back.

I am sure that you will be able to meet all sorts of fun and interesting people that way.

-Francesca

PS: You’re on Twitter too? I had no idea. I will log in soon and complete my mission of following you everywhere I can.

Lara May 4, 2009 at 5:30 pm

It is super uncanny how much that bird matches your blog. But that means that it was made just for you and that you should MOST DEFINITELY wear it EVERYWHERE you go.

Mylestones May 4, 2009 at 6:55 pm

First, I do totally love that sweater, so take what I’m about to say with that in mind.

It looks a little bit like my dog after she does her “thing” and then she does this “kick kick” with her hind legs, you know, to celebrate the occasion. Actually, it looks more like a bird imitating my dog doing that, probably mocking the stupid bird-dogs who are always chasing birds to no avail, saying (with a mocking tone): “Oh, look at me, I’m a bird dog, I just pooed and now I’m kicking my legs in celebration..sheesh, dogs are soo lame.”
But really, I do love the sweater. :-)

Sara@i.Sass May 4, 2009 at 7:01 pm

I haven’t been here in so long!
I’ve had to cut back on blog time…spring is finally here and I need to PLANT.
Love the new look, it’s cute it matches your new sweater. Hardy har har.
You crack me up girlfriend!

Sabrina May 4, 2009 at 7:02 pm

I almost bought that sweater! Maybe I should’ve got it, cause now i will match my blog too!

You saw Flight of the Conchords you LUCKY DUCKY!!!!!!!
FUN!

mama-face May 4, 2009 at 7:11 pm

Great Business Idea: Blogger Sweaters! Could you possibly branch out to include t-shirts? love message t-shirts, I do. So proud of you for going shopping, YOU ROCK GF. I get my “shopping high” buying things for my daughters. Retail Therapy is real. for me.

Inner-city Pressure?

Jen May 4, 2009 at 7:12 pm

that is cool. I wear my blog whenever I drive around in my van thanks to my van bling. I love it, its awesome. ;)

Mary May 4, 2009 at 7:24 pm

You could make it match your blog exactly by changing the picture on the blog :)

MoziEsmé May 4, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Same color and everything! You have to wear it! Out and about, too. Maybe embroider your blog address on the back in all your free time. It’s all about marketing, you know…

Muthering Heights May 4, 2009 at 8:39 pm

That is so cute!!! It would be quite humorous if you had your URL on there too, LOL!

Steph @ Diapers and Divinity May 4, 2009 at 9:26 pm

I just want to say that if I were wearing my blog, I’d have a diaper on right now. You’ve made a much classier choice. :)

wendy May 4, 2009 at 9:50 pm

I love that shirt (or sweater?) And as soon as I saw it I yelled. THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE YOUR BLOG. I bet your a cuter dresser then you give yourself credit for.
I wonder if I can find something that looks like MY blog —something with lots of wrinkles perhaps.

Jules from "The Roost" May 4, 2009 at 10:04 pm

I saw that sweater! It fits you and the blog perfect. Cute :)

Kelly @ Love Well May 4, 2009 at 10:08 pm

That is a sweater worthy of a Flight of the Conchords concert.

I’ll be looking for it around town. Woe to the person who dares wear a sweater like that and is NOT you.

happygeek May 4, 2009 at 10:20 pm

LOVE the sweater. Wear it with pride. Big ole bloggy pride.

Melanie J May 4, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Love Flight of the Conchords. Especially the Hiphopopatomaus vs. Rhymenoceras. Me and Kenny have a whole dance we do to that song.

Well, not really, but we can sing the whole thing in parts which isn’t much better.

Debbie May 5, 2009 at 7:08 am

You know one of the multitude of things I love about you Heather? You have the guts to write down the insanity floating around in your head and it always sounds like the craziness inside my head! I’m always thinking waaaay too much about what I wear and what someone will make of it when truthfully, they are probably just happy I’m clothed!

Blessed May 5, 2009 at 7:19 am

great sweater!

Oh and I’m in that nothing-to-wear stage too, except that I’m 34 weeks pregnant, big as a beached whale and who knows what size I’ll be after the Baby gets here :) At least I should have more options than I have right now! I love to stop at thrift stores so I usually keep a few new things in my wardrobe pretty much all the time – of course that means I have to clean out the closet a lot too!

Wendi @ Every Day Miracles May 5, 2009 at 7:58 am

Reading through your cmments is always entertaining.

Your such a cool writer. Who else can write about a sweater and generate such a response??

I love it!! You are awesome. :)

Abra May 5, 2009 at 10:18 am

Fantastic… I have palm trees on my sandals… so I guess we can still be friends.

Shantel May 5, 2009 at 10:30 am

I HATE shopping. I know what you mena about the being stuck thing. I have two choices – look like hannah montana, or Mrs. Brady.
So I just do my best, and end up looking like a muppet.
The end.

Becky May 5, 2009 at 10:47 am

I would have snatched that puppy, er, bird, right up! It’s like the universe is telling you that blogging is a good thing.

I was a little shocked to hear that you’re not a shopper. But I still love you.

Kim May 5, 2009 at 12:08 pm

You better bring it to Blogher lady! I can’t wait to see it in person ;)

Kimberly May 5, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Wow! If nothing else the colour is pretty much identical!

radioactive girl May 5, 2009 at 1:16 pm

That is the most awesome thing ever. I love you for buying it!

I am right there with you on clothes shoppng. I either dress like I am a teenager and people think I am my kids’ sister, or I dress like an old woman and feel so uncomfortable and not myself the entire day. Lately I have been loving pajamas a whole lot. I do wear real clothes when I go out but I have been putting on my pajamas as soon as possible each evening.

S'dizzle May 5, 2009 at 5:02 pm

I think wearing a sweater that matches your blog is one of the most beastest things I’ve ever heard of! I would totally be stoked if I came upon such a find.

p.s. beastest= coolest (Cassie tells me Beast is the new slang word for cool used by all the youngsters)

oh, btw, we drank some of that whiskey from that Jesse James bottle I bought at your garage sale at my party on Sat., it was dusty but not bad.

…kay bye

Amanda - The Mom Job May 5, 2009 at 9:35 pm

I often joke that I “plug” my blog so much to my friends, that soon I’m going to make them all t-shirts that say “The Mom Job”.

This is a little more subtle, though.

(And I’d love to hear your take on numero tres *wink, wink)

Heidi Ashworth May 5, 2009 at 9:49 pm

If wearing that perfectly adorable sweater b/c it matches your blog is somehow wrong, then my fleet of new black, cream and hot pink clothing (to match my book) must all go into the incinerator.

Lisa May 6, 2009 at 9:08 pm

I am with you on the shopping thing. Groceries, yes. CLothes, no. Everything just seems like STUFF to me, and I don’t like to spend money on stuff. And I don’t like it when stuff overtakes my closet. I am pretty cheap, which helps our budget look better, but as you point out, eventually it starts to show and the cutness that may have at one time exisited is long gone.

Glad you got to “splurge” a little though. Sometimes you just gotta!

Tooj May 8, 2009 at 11:03 am

Ryan LOVES it. I’m certain. I don’t know Ryan…but I’m still certain. LOL
