Mulling House

November 4, 2009

Wednesday~November 4, 2009

Miles keeps coming home from school with pictures like this one:

and this one:

He’s been thinking a lot about what it means to “move house.” He’s been listening closely while his mom and dad talk about showings and rush around cleaning for those showings. He’s been listening even more closely when we talk to him about the possibility of selling. We’ve worked hard at pointing out all the positive things about moving, should it actually happen. He’s the kind of kid that needs to mull over these things and then look at the bright side of saying goodbye.

So am I.

When we got two offers last night we didn’t think too much about the possibility of selling because the offers were very low. We countered the higher of the two offers, bringing the number nearly back to our original asking price. Then we said well, that’s that…maybe someone else will see what a great deal this is…

And then we sold our house.

They took the counter offer.

I am freaking out.

Just so you know.

Excitement, shock, grief, happiness, fear, and joy. I felt all of those things in the moment that Ryan called and said we sold it, sweetie. It sold.

This is the way I am. Emotional. For me, moving house is a really big deal. Especially moving cities. But it’s good. It’s all so good.

So, if you live in my hometown, we’ll be moving in December 29th. Please bring chocolate.
And if you live in our other hometown, the one where I sit right now, I’m really going to miss you. Please bring chocolate.

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! We actually sold our house!!!

(Can you tell I’m mulling this over?)

Ginny (MAD21) November 4, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Congratulations! Having moved several times myself (I'm an Army brat), I can totally relate to what you are going through.

Perhaps now you can relax a little?

Corinne November 4, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Yay!!! Congratulations! Sending lots of good moving vibes your way…

Jen November 4, 2009 at 3:46 pm

That is really awesome. Congrats on selling your house.
I totally understand the 'mulling it over' part. I was the same way when we sold our house.

This Heavenly Life November 4, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Well congratulations! You've got some excitement ahead of you — I think you're fully allowed to mull until it's all through. And then mull some more :)

Kelly @ Love Well November 4, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Talk about a great ending. CONGRATULATIONS! I can't wait to see your new home. (That's next on the agenda, right?)

Kim November 4, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Send me your old and new addresses and I'll send chocolate. Seriously.

Cynthia November 4, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Congratulations! How exciting to move home. We moved back home after our twins were out of the NICU- I needed my Mommy. We're the 'put down roots' type of people. I hope we never have to move again.

Oh- and I'm so glad the stress of showing the house is over too! Woot Woo!

Kimberly November 4, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Oh. My. What a welter of conflicting emotions you must be going through right now!

Email me your address and I'll send you some Canadian chocolate, okay?

Boy Crazy (@claritychaos) November 4, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Wow!!! Congratulations!! So exciting. I wish you all the best as you ride this next wave.

BaronessBlack November 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Yay! Congratulations!
There's a time for everything, and obviously the time is right for you to be moving!
I'm SO envious! As an army brat (isn't it weird, two of us called Ginny?) I'm used to moving every two years.

I miss it!

Erin November 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm

kirsten November 4, 2009 at 10:26 pm

amazing how quickly things can resolve when we are still at the 'processing' stage in our hearts. I like to think of this as indication that Someone is in control. :) Good luck!!

Congrats!! Now you can take a break from all that cleaning!

I hope you have a really good transition – moving can be really hard and really good (I'm up to 20-some, myself!). Enjoy!

ChrisTomlinIsMyPretendBoyfriend November 5, 2009 at 7:58 pm

So where will you be moving to? Did you get the house that you were telling me about? I need to know so I can make a map of the best route to get my stalking on.

~Mendie~ November 5, 2009 at 10:23 pm

Congratulations!!!

Christy November 6, 2009 at 9:12 am

Oh my goodness! Congratulations – that's awesome news, especially in this market. Have you already purchased a home in your new (old) hometown? So excited for you all!

Sarah November 6, 2009 at 9:50 am

What a happy-sad post. What a happy-sad time in your life. In the end I'm sure it will be more happy than sad but the in between is hard. And even though smiling through tears is one of my favorite emotions, I know that the planning and the mentalizing (yes, it's a word in my dictionary!) is so very difficult right now.

Mull, mull, mull… while you pack! But, um, maybe you would consider making your hometown oh…let's say…somewhere in Connecticut instead? heeheehee

Congrats on selling the house. And, moreover, on future.

Sue November 6, 2009 at 12:44 pm

Congratulations Heather! That's wonderful!

Heather November 6, 2009 at 1:03 pm

congrats! Hope it all goes smoothly!

Shana November 7, 2009 at 9:06 pm

Congrats on this achievement and the excitement of what's to come! It's a big thing but you'll be fine – especially if people come through on your request for chocolate!!!

Good luck!

Aidan Donnelley Rowley November 8, 2009 at 9:01 am

A big congrats! I know how this can feel like an amazing and yet bittersweet development. We are moving this spring/summer and I already find myself getting oddly (and prematurely) emotional about the goodbye and all of the rich memories we have had here. And now there will be a new "here." Good luck with everything! And my fingers are crossed that you receive much of that coveted chocolate!

radioactive girl November 9, 2009 at 12:23 pm

Congratulations! How exciting!
