Spring Fling

April 29, 2010

I was sneaking up on it because it’s fragile
it’s trying so hard

It is one of four
Four flowering trees
in our yard
Four!

These are pictures of one
and of my shadow
and they are stretching together

Me and the tree

Hi little petals,
just a moment ago
you were only tiny bumps on brown sticks

But you’ve been stretching
and growing and I could kiss you
You are the kind of good thing
that appears out of nowhere
overnight

With a reaching and
glorious
BOOM! BANG! POW!
I love BOOM! BANG! POW!

Oh and wait. There’s a bird’s nest with eggs tucked inside
right outside my kitchen window?

Oh, yes.
Don’t worry, little fellas
when I see those pesky squirrels sneaking up on you
I will stop washing dishes and I will scare them with a
knock on the window
Works every time
BOOM! BANG! POW!

Oh Heather, this is so much fun. Reminds me of some of the Carl Sandburg I've read.

Beautiful pictures girlfriend!

Take a million pictures of a tree and they all tell different stories, can envoke different feelings and thoughts.
Love it! Thanks for that.

You're so creative you squirrel-scarre, you! ;) Spring has definitely sprung in your yard.

Lara April 29, 2010 at 7:47 pm

Ooh…so pretty!

And entertaining, too. You show those squirrels, Miss Heather of the EO!

Tooj April 29, 2010 at 9:09 pm

What a gorgeous tree. And how lucky are you to be able to see it and sneak up on it whenever you want right now? :) Finding nests are a symbol I think…we had one built above our front door, and I admit I felt akin to it….maybe because I'm pregnant. Who knows.

I miss keeping up with your blog. I can't wait to be home on maternity leave and stay caught up for a bit.

Happy Thursday.

Writer, poet, photographer. Is there nothing you can't do?

The sweetness of this post is contagious. A virtual smile-instigator. Love it. And you.

Can I move into your backyard? I can be on squirrel duty. Such gorgeous pictures. I always thought your legs looked long, but woooooah! BOOM, BANG, POW! You could do some serious damage with those!

Christine April 30, 2010 at 6:08 am

Oh how I love spring…the fullness of life and the beauty just like you've shown us here.

P.S. I'm VERY jealous of that flowering tree!

Billy Coffey April 30, 2010 at 8:09 am

I heart BOOM! BANG! POW! I think I'll go look for some of that today.
