good news is so good

April 28, 2011

I posted this news to Twitter and Facebook yesterday, so many of you know, but yesterday brought really really GOOD news!

I had another test done yesterday to follow up on the one that was done when we first came in on Monday. That first test had a positive result, proving that I was leaking amniotic fluid (this is how they assumed there was a rupture tear.)

I was also having numerous contractions that they immediately starting getting under control with magnesium.

Well, friends. Today, the test to check for amniotic fluid was NEGATIVE. Meaning, NOT leaking. Meaning either there was a false positive that first night and I was in preterm labor with no leaking, OR the ol’ uterus was leaking and then it was not.  (I think the second option is pretty cool, considering all of the love and thoughts and prayers that were coming our way.)

Around this same time, when taken off the magnesium to see if my body would start laboring, my contractions almost entirely went away. Even the mildest ones. It’s just…so GOOD.

What does this mean?

I got to come home last night! Because of the absence of amniotic fluid, there is no concern about infection and because I’m not contracting like I was, we can watch and wait and be careful from here!

So I got to catch kisses at bedtime with my boys and today I’ll make sure Asher wears his glasses and I’ll fold laundry. It sounds really good to me.

Sidenote: Many of you know that these boys of mine were big when they were born. Miles was 9lbs, 15ounces and Asher was 10 lbs, 10 ounces.  I bring that up because yesterday before I was released from the hospital, I had a thorough ultrasound to make sure that the amniotic fluid was sufficient in there, etc. And this baby girl is measuring beyond her gestational age just like Asher was. I tell you that simply because it just cracks me up. I’m in the business of making really large babies, apparently. You should have seen her cheeks! They are lovely-huge.

Of course I’ll end now with more thank yous. I couldn’t keep up, that’s how much love was poured out and I really needed it, friends.  We heard so many different things in the last few days and it was hard on a Mama’s heart. Every word you wrote on facebook, Twitter, in comments and emails was read (gobbled) and I’m so grateful.

It’s really going to be okay.

xoxo

So happy for you!!! :)
(Although I was kinda hoping i would have the baby when you were still there… then we could’ve been hospital buddies.)
But i would much rather have you at your house with a baby in your belly for a lot more weeks. :)

isn’t it amazing how good the normal routine can feel, even if you’ve only missed it a few days?

So, so glad for you, friend.

Kate April 28, 2011 at 8:07 am

I’m very happy about this news. It was like a breeze that comes up on the hottest thickest night that touches your skin and soothes your spirit. There was a definite collapse of relief in my chest over your positives and the ability to throw those kisses again.

Be well, take care of yourself, sit down more, lean back more, give your feet, hips and back a break. And I will still be praying.

I am so glad to hear this Heather! My heart sunk when I read you were in the hospital. Having spent 4 weeks on hospital bed rest with a one yr. old at home, I know too well the feeling of being split in two and what a toll it can take on a family. I pray that the rest of your pregnancy is uneventful!
