BlogHer ’11 Serenity Suite

July 25, 2011

In just over a week, Elsie and I will leave on a jet plane and head to California for our first trip together! We’ll be attending the BlogHer conference in San Diego. I’m so excited to show off my sweet Elsie, to get some face time with far-away friends and to be a part of the Serenity Suite again this year. The suite was quite the success last year and it was an honor to help provide this space for people to relax and get some support in the midst of a beautifully busy conference experience.

With Serenity Suite planning in full swing again this year, Maggie and I wanted to be sure attendees have all their questions answered in one place. You’ll find our best efforts to cover all the suite info. below. If you’re attending the conference, please stop by and visit us!

:::

What is the Serenity Suite?

Open throughout the BlogHer ’11 conference in San Diego, this BlogHer-sponsored space will allow anyone who needs it to take a moment or two in the peace and quiet to rejuvenate. This will be a no-frills safe place to simply sit, grab a glass of water or a cup of coffee/tea, and connect with fellow bloggers in a low-key environment–then return to the parties or sessions refreshed and ready to join in on all that BlogHer has to offer.

Is the Serenity Suite just for recovering alcoholics?

No, it is open to all attendees. However, the idea came from a need for a safe meeting space for people in recovery. When Maggie and I wished for just such a space in 2010, we learned BlogHer already had a shared vision for a quiet respite for all conference attendees–and so we joined forces and the BlogHer Serenity Suite was born.  All are welcome; please note, however, that there will be no alcohol served or allowed inside of the Serenity Suite.

Where will it be located?

At BlogHer ’11 ::: San Diego Convention Center ::: Room  8

What times will it be open?

Thursday from 7pm-10pm, Friday from 10am-10pm (closed 4:30-6:30pm for community keynotes), and on Saturday from 10am-10pm (closed 5pm-6pm for closing keynote).

What’s different this year?

The Suite will be held in a larger, more accessible space for BlogHer11. Even more exciting, this year the Serenity Suite has the honor of hosting a BlogHer sponsored open-mic Listen To Your Mother Salon, led by the talented Ann Imig, the national director of Listen to Your Mother. You don’t want to miss it. TRUST ME. (Friday from 8pm-10pm)

Who will be in the Suite?

All BlogHer attendees are welcome. The suite will be hosted by many bloggers who have been kind enough to volunteer their time. Check back for a list of blogger hosts, and keep an eye out for their tweets during the conference by following the hashtag #serenitysuite.

I have more questions–who can I ask?

If you have questions, please feel free to email heatheroftheeo at gmail dot com, maggie at violenceunsilenced dot com, or leave a comment here on this post.

We hope to see you there!

Never knew the background on the Serenity Suite. What a great idea. I guess we take some things for granted sometimes, and I’m glad to have a reminder that the experience is different for everyone. :)
