art and hilarity

September 18, 2011

We went to an art festival yesterday and the boys created.

I love it when they do that.

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you probably already know, but my boys have been saying THE FUNNIEST things lately. Like yesterday when Miles went to greet Elsie after she woke up and he noticed she was sleeping in a sleep sack (in her crib) and he said,

She’s like a little slug…a slug stuck in jail.

And then the other day, Asher was in the bathroom and I heard him say, in a robot-like voice, You. have. 55. pees. So I said, What honey? and he answered, Oh nothing, that was just the toilet talking.

Last night I was reading them books and the book said that a mother’s eyes sparkle like the stars in the sky. So of course I had to ask them if my eyes are sparkly.  They said yes! And then Asher added that my eyes are sparkly wif (with) a lot of red in them.

Heh.

Am tired.

Which brings me to this: Elsie is having major sleep trouble. She still gulps so much air while she eats and I’ve tried everything and it is what is and she refuses bottles (to see if a different latch would help), so…here we are. Not sleeping.  (I say I’ve tried everything, but really, what do I know? So if you’ve had an air gulping baby and found a way to help make that NOT happen, I’d love to hear about it.)

I’m so tired that I don’t even mind begging you to join me for Just Write again this Tuesday. I loved last week’s experience (and I’m STILL not done reading every link, but I will get there). So yeah, please come along with me. I’d appreciate it very much.

I hope your weekend has been GOOD, friend.

Oh, Heather. So sorry you are back in the no-sleep-zone, and so sorry for Miss Elsie! I hope there’s a mom out there who comments here with the solution. Stay well, sober sister.

I really want to read all the Just Write entries, too. I got to a lot of them! I hope you get some sleep peace and answers. Your boys remind me a lot of my boys. I just imagine some day being able to be together with all my favorite bloggers and our kids in one place. We need to make this happen. “Cupcake w/sprinkles 12”?

Love you,
Steph

Awww, I wish you didn’t have the sleep trouble. We didn’t have an air gulping baby. We had a severe double ear infections all the damn time baby. It sucked as he didn’t sleep through the night for an entire year :/ My husband and I couldn’t even speak in complete sentences anymore.

That probably doesn’t help. So I’ll say that I plan on joining you for Just Write. I’ve been thinking of what I’m going to write for it all weekend and I’m so excited to share it with everyone!

My oldest son was bottlefed because I couldn’t breastfeed him. He had lots of gas issues, so in every bottle we had to put anti-gas drops. There are different brands out there, but the only one that worked for us was called Little Tummies. You can give it to a breasted baby. You would just have to use the medicine dropper. It was a lifesaver for us. Have you also tried rubbing her tummy then bicycling her legs while she’s on her back then gently pushing her knees into her belly to try to release gas? Good luck. I know how frustrating these times can be. I hope you can find some relief for her and a way to get some sleep.

oh, I love hilarity. And the part about the red in your eyes reminded me of this: http://www.clarity-chaos.com/2011/06/secrets-to-success.html (just the first part)

I also love free writing. It’s all I have time for anymore anyway, so maybe I should just link up.

hope you all get some sleep, mama.

I did have a gulping baby. And with breastfeeding I had a huge letdown, and she had reflux. So this is what I did… hope it helps. I had a small hand pump that I would “take some off the top” with before my daughter latched on. I also breastfed in a reclined position. In addition I would give her little tummies gas drops before the feeding to prevent gas bubbles from forming. And then for the reflux we slept in a reclined position on my couch with lots of pillows surrounding me. She also was on zantac which really helped things a lot. I hope this helps:)

Thank you so much, Robin.
My Elsie is on a reflux med that helps a lot, too. She stopped crying when we got her on the right one. phew.
now she’s just so UNABLE to stay sleeping because of the gas. I didn’t know Little Tummies had gas drops but I’m definitely going to try them. I also take her off during my crazy letdown, which does seem to help…and so does changing positions. There is just SO MUCH gas because she thrusts her tongue and gulps air the whole time. TRICKY. But everything that can help is SO appreciated so thank you for letting me know what you’ve done!

Griffin gulped. We tried gripe water and it helped us out a ton. We got it in the health foods area at Cash Wise. Good stuff! Good luck with the little gulper. Sleep is such a great thing, I hope the both of you get more of it soon!

I relied on Ovol it worked so well for my oldest, he had horrible reflux and gas issues, it was a life saver for sure!
I hope your Elsie sleeps soon so you can too!

Your little guys are so funny. I love just listening to my kids just to hear what’s going to come out of their mouths next, I love the “55 pees” I choked a bit on my chicken wrap when I read that.
