Just Write {29}

April 3, 2012

We walked to the park with the merry-go-round, all five of us. Our family. It was so warm and not so windy and the clouds were looming in the best way. Floating puffs looking as if they were being slowly pulled apart like taffy. Maybe I thought of them as taffy or cotton candy or fluffy marshmallows because I’ve been refraining from sugar for nearly forty days but I still crave it.

I sat on the merry-go-round next to Ryan and we talked about how we can’t even push along with our feet on the ground to spin because we both get sick to our stomachs when we go in circles. We laughed. I thought of an analogy, of course. About going in circles and how it feels and pushing along or just sitting still and being. Elsie sat nearby in the grass and contemplated whether she should try to eat a leaf or a stick and the boys played all over the whole park, over and over. Around in circles they went, under the fluffy clouds.

On the way home, Ryan pushed Elsie in the stroller and he got a head start while the boys put their shoes back on. Their shoes always end up off at the park.  I waited for them and then Miles took off super fast to catch up and Asher and I ran after him, yelling that we’d win.  We took a short cut, zig-zagging across the grass instead of staying on the path. Ryan said it was cheating, but we just thought we were smart. Then Asher got too tired so I piggy-backed him and ran and he bounced and laughed and laughed.

Maybe we were pulling the taffy clouds along, connected and running straight. That’s what it felt like on the way home from the park.

Lovely glimpse of an ordinary, yet not at all ordinary, day. So many people would envy that moment, don’t you think? (Must. Remember. To. Appreciate. This. Time. In. My. Life.) These Just Write segments help me to live deliberately. Thank you, Heather.

I can’t believe you’ve been off sugar so long- and taffy, yes. I feel like a piece of stretched out taffy every day. Funny how it cane be put back together, in a way, but never as strong as before. But more flexible.

I love love love memories like these. So precious. These are the ones that stick (stick, like sticky, like taffy… Sugar on my mind now too!)

Oh I just adore that last thought, taffy-like clouds. Some of them DO look SO much like that! Sounds like some beautiful time as a family, my friend. :)

Merry-go-rounds make me sick as well. And I don’t like going in circles either.

I linked. But obviously I have photo problems, as evidenced by my (lack of) photo on the linky thing. I definitely need to take notes from your last blog post. :)

I can’t spin on the merry go round either. Too barfy.

This is my first time linking up. I’m not sure I followed the spirit of the link up, but I promise that was all free written out during a conference session yesterday. Very minimal editing when I typed into a post.

Sounds like a perfect day. I too am in the homestretch of 40 days without sweets. But I have been eating frozen pineapple when I needed a bit of something. And I can’t even get on a swing now with out getting dizzy. Just typing that made my head spin a little. Oy vey.

This? Was a sigh-worthy reminder that it’s *all* about the journey, yes?

(Also? That was totally not cheating. #Genius :) )
