in which we adventure up north

July 18, 2012

Nope, I was not driving while photo-ing. But I am giving everyone suckers every time we go somewhere far,

even Elsie Jane no matter if her thighs and toes get all sticky or not. Aaah, the quiet!

You won’t believe it. We started off on our road trip yesterday, right? And we were prepared for a rough time, since EJ pretty much hates road trips. But then, this beautiful thing happened in which…

it went really well.

Maybe I’m a pessimist about such things, but I was utterly shocked and so was Ryan. Is it naive of me to give a whole lot of the credit to the Chrysler Town and Country we’re using? Does it sound like I’m just saying that because I’ve been given the use of this vehicle for one week for the sake of review? Well. I’m not. I sincerely love this vehicle, and my dear husband, who is a total car guy, loves it too. What’s not to love, really? I mean, on our trip up here we got 30 miles to the gallon, we could listen to satellite xm radio, and the boys were occupied with movies.

I don’t really know how to explain Elsie. Maybe it’s just the vibe, the way we’re all kind of road trip and water park giddy. Or maybe she just likes watching us all, especially now that she graduated to a more upright car seat and can see more. I don’t know, but whatever it is, we like it. Less crying = good.

The only catastrophe we had on the way was when I dropped my Chipotle burrito bowl on the floor. I made Ryan pull over and I picked up the very sad rice and beans with napkins. That’s how I found out the Town and Country floor has some sort of magical carpeting. You couldn’t even tell food had just been there. It wiped off like it was linoleum. No sticky mess. I love no sticky mess. But I’m very sad I didn’t get to eat the entire burrito bowl. Just so you know.

We got to Edgewater Resort and water park and found out that we have a room with a view of Lake Superior! It’s gorgeous. We went to the water park and the outdoor pool, played mini golf and now the kids are asleep while I write this. They are having the best time. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for somewhere with attractions on site and free breakfast. Who doesn’t look for free breakfast? I know the seagulls do because they stole chicken from us tonight when we ate our dinner outside before mini golf.

Isn’t mini golf with a one year old super easy?

I mean, aside from them taking the golf balls all the time?

Am I coming out of the Elsie Jane bumpy infancy fog?

I think so.

{edited to add: last night Ryan and I agreed to expect the worst kind of sleep and that helped us because we got the worst kind of sleep. You know. Hardly any. Oh well, we expected it. Elsie doesn’t like the pack-n-play and Miles is forever our early bird, no matter what time he goes to bed. We have a great suite with two rooms, so that helps a lot, with that whole Elsie thing. At one point I asked Ryan if he would sleep in the hall and if anyone came along, just go ahead and ask them to whisper and to not slam their doors. For some reason, he wouldn’t do that. Weird.}

That’s a big dog bed. We dropped Tia off at Nanny and Bapa’s. (Thank you!)

Look how much space! All of our bags, stroller and pack-n-play are behind the boys, yo.

Also. One of the seats is stowed to make that much more room for Tia.

So much fun! I took my girls on our first road trip solo(me=only adult) 2 years ago – Astrid was not yet 1 and still nursing – and our drive was 20 hours. Yeah, I’m not bright…but actually it went really well! My kids shocked me and really did great.

And as far as the hotel room. Yeah, Jed’s slept out in the hall before. lol

Love you. Looks like a fun time and sorry about your burrito! xoxo

“A sponsored post. And a true story.” Ha.

Glad you are having fun. Look at that blue sky!

And yeah, I don’t think any family sleeps well in a hotel. Ever. Maybe once the kids are teenagers. But I can’t see that far.

Good for you! We’re looking at bigger vehicles right now. My husband wants a Toyota Sequoia, but I would love a minivan. We usually rent a minivan anytime we travel with kids, and they’re soooo nice!
