Just Write {53}

September 17, 2012

Our house has two walls that are all windows. So I guess they aren’t really walls, they’re windows, but you know what I mean. The light is good by those windows. Elsie was standing in front of one of them, between two pulled back curtains, with her blue eyes shining in that light. She had her little dress pulled up and she was pushing her little finger on her little chubby outie belly button. She caught me staring and she giggled. I giggled back and lifted my shirt just a little and let my not so little belly that has housed three not so little babies stick out just enough to show my mother belly button, all stretched out for them. She giggled more. I put my finger on my belly button and she rushed toward me with her finger still on hers and something pulled from my insides like she was going home. It stopped everything, even time, and I stood so still and she let go of hers so she could wrap her arms around my legs.

Then just like that she went back to the window to watch the world and I was there with my hand on the door of the fridge, missing her and watching her both.

This is the 53rd installment of Just Write, an exercise in free writing your ordinary and extraordinary moments. {Please see the details here.} I would love to read your freely written words so join me and link up below. You can add the url of your post at any time. Just be sure it’s a link to your Just Write post, not to your main page, and please don’t link to posts that are not written in the spirit of capturing moments–like lists or sponsored posts. Then please link back to this post in your post so people know where to go if they’d like to join in. (Any links not following those two guidelines will be deleted.)

Also. Please take a moment to visit someone else who has linked up! It’s a really good way to meet new writers and get inspired by the meaning behind their moments. Word?

Gorgeous. I forget — just plain forget — where my bio kids came from, and that I was once their home, and damn, isn’t that amazing? Thanks for hosting, as always. xo

My body is a home. That’s one cool thing that a lot of women get to actual experience. Lots of us have actually housed a real living person in our bodies. How did we take care ourselves during that time in our life? How much more should we take care of our body when it’s filled with Jesus?

Oh. Just… oh. So beautiful. My kids are so big now, it’s been so long since my body was a home. But that connection will always be there. Such beautiful writing. thank you, my friend.

Oh beautiful and I know that feeling so well, missing them when they are right in front of us and when they are not.

So beautiful. I’ve always loved little ones’ fascination with belly buttons but never thought of it as you have – as coming home. So lovely.

This is one of those times where I wish I could remember those moments without writing it down but you know, you know it will probably get stashed and so you do. :)

(and look at me just writing again)

Me too! I wish I could remember something so BIG…but I won’t. It’s so weird.

And I’m so glad you’re back! xo

I was thinking the same thing about pictures as well. But why is it so hard to toe the line between just living it and capturing it?

Oh lovely lovely lovely. “Missing her and watching her both.” When I was pregnant with my girl, I used to love feeling her move while I fell asleep. I knew, even then, even without the wisdom gained though birthing a person, that I’d miss that closeness.

I have been there. The missing that is. When they are sick I often feel that we are still somewhat part of each other. That the missing piece is being closer so that we can all heal. The missing and watching is the spirit of your heart. For me it is an conversation with God.

Beautiful piece, Heather. You always amaze me.

Such a cute picture. I love those moments when you catch them doing something and you can both giggle about it.
