It almost didn’t happen: a tale of two bloggers, a blogger party, many bloggers and many car seats #gracosafety

November 1, 2012

Last Friday began with snow. I kid you not. Snow. This is not shocking for Minnesota, but it is anyway, when Halloween has not yet happened. NOOOO, we say out loud and to God. It’s too early, we shout! Because we know we’re in for a loooong winter.

Thankfully, it wasn’t a snow storm that caused any kind of rugged road conditions, because I was up and ready for the trip to Allison’s house and the snow needed to not stop me. After all, we had big plans; to give away 14 just released Graco SnugRide Click Connect-40 car seats to our blogging friends!

The roads turned out to be just fine and the snow stopped midway through the afternoon. Now all we needed was for the big truck to pull up outside the O Family home with a pallet of car seats inside.

But alas, no truck. NO CAR SEATS!!!

You see friends, there had been a shipping problem and I won’t go into detail about that. I’ll only say that the shipping company…um…didn’t really get the car seats to us, which was bad because we invited people over to….have fun and eat with us and…get some car seats.

In the end (or really the middle, if we’re talking about this post) Allison’s kind father-in-law went to pick up the car seats from the loading dock at the shipping place and brought them to us! One hour before the party started!

We breathed a sigh of relief and we practiced using all of the (truly amazing) features of the car seat and we even quickly hired a mascot!

Just kidding, he’s not a mascot. He’s Leo. He’s adorable and he belongs to blogger Kellyn. (I’ll have you know he really likes me.)

Our guests arrived all adorable in their fall sweaters and scarves and boots. We ate little chocolates shaped like cupcakes and kettle corn and fancy pizza and little tiny quiches and bite-sized brownies.

Then we gathered around (not all bloggers pictured) and learned a lot about the first car seat to adhere to the new American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation–that every tiny little human ages 0-2 years should face backwards in the back seat.

The Graco SnugRide Click Connect-40 makes staying rear facing for the first two years easier by providing more leg room for the toddler stage. This seat does this by sliding backward with a 8 position reclining system! This is ground breaking for parents because this seat will work for babies 4lbs to 40lbs and through two years!

You may not be able to tell here, but Allison is showing everyone how this seat even has a little hidden thing that slides out to protect your car’s interior from little muddy or wet feet! (You’ll also be able to tell that we’re bloggers…by how many people are looking at their smart phones at once.)

That’s super cool, but I find something else even cooler. You know how annoying it is to re-thread your baby’s car seat straps when your baby grows bigger and starts to get pushed down at his/her little shoulders? It’s tricky. I always make Ryan do it. Well, this car seat has a Simply Safe Adjust that allows the caregiver to adjust the headrest and harness height with just one hand from behind! Yes, friends. At the back of the seat, there’s a sliding mechanism that allows you to change the height of the straps and headrest as your child grows. I absolutely love that feature.

If you’d like to learn more about the new Graco SnugRide Click Connect-40 (currently available only at Babies r Us and online), you can visit the Graco Safety Page.

We sent each blogger home with this new car seat and I have to say, that was so much fun. I loved watching mamas to be and mamas of wee ones walking away with a big gift. I’m so grateful to Allison’s father-in-law for helping to make this happen!  And then, a huge thank you to Allison and the O Family, for welcoming us all inside for a party with good food, good friends and boxes and boxes of car seats.

Disclaimer:

The Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 – the first and only newborn to two-year infant car seat that actually grows with your baby from four pounds all the way up to 40 pounds. The car seat is designed for a parent on the go. The infant car seat can be easily removed from the base and used as a carrier when the infant is small, providing portability and convenience so you can easily move your infant in and out of the car without disturbing them.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently made the recommendation to keep all children in rear-facing car seats until the age of 2. Graco set out to make this product so parents can keep infants rear facing longer while still keeping them comfortable.

I now have some serious sadness that I couldn’t be there, because rear-facing for up to 40 pounds? is amazing. #waaaah

I should also tell you that I’m a bit of a carseat snob, so this event was right up my alley.

Did you tell Elsie that she and Leo will one day be wed…I mean it… :)

Thank you again! Leo and I had the best time, and it was just what I needed (the lovely contact with adults).

In Feb an (as yet unborn) eight-week old will come to me five days a week to be loved while his parents provide for his future. I think that I will recommend to those same parents that they buy this car seat. We need two bases and one seat–is that a possibility for this magnificent wonder, she asks… OK, I will go investigate the Graco® website for myself. After all, you are busy with those three bundles of love some of the uninitiated call kids.
