we have arrived

It’s been almost a week since I tried to figure out how to do a blog post from my phone and told you Just Write was delayed. Then I never came back. I’ve been terribly occupied.

We’re here! In Austin, Texas! We’ve been unpacking and decorating and breaking down boxes and figuring out the watering system for the lawn and geocaching and we went to Austin New Church and the YMCA and SONIC FOR HAPPY HOUR SLUSHIES. (x3)

Also. IKEA for curtain rods.

Also. The H.E.B. Plus for some food.

Then we unpacked more boxes and more boxes and more boxes.

I stopped to do some free-writing on Saturday, so Just Write will be back tomorrow! (Which really means later tonight, since I try to get the linky thingy up ahead of time for y’all.) (That was me, trying to practice Southern speak.)

Will you write with me? Remember, Just Write is all about either writing what is currently happening around you, in detail. Or doing the same with something that’s happened semi-recently. Then, you just write. Don’t over-think, just write from your insides and keep writing. Let it out. Watch the details unfold your extraordinary story, okay?

P.S. So far, we really love it here. There are kids next door on both sides of our house and they are already good friends to our kids. We’re so grateful. Also. There’s a preschool right next door and our neighbor that runs it is so kind and funny and good. Guess what? She has one toddler opening for the fall. (We’re going to put Elsie Jane’s name on that opening.) (SO grateful.) (WOW.) (NEXT DOOR.)

P.P.S. Oh and I also went to Super Target and I got two adorondak chairs and then I remembered that they can’t possibly fit in my car. I thought of this while I was on the phone with my friend Kim and she came right over and rescued my chairs and came to my house to drop them off. They are porch chairs. While I waited for Kim in the Target parking lot, I sat in one of the chairs and ate a soft pretzel and drank a Dr. Pepper. People looked at me funny.

Keep Austin Weird.

I’m good at following directions.

Can I just say how EXCITED I am for you guys. Yes, it was always nice knowing you were just a car drive away, but I love this adventure for you!
We contemplate moving all the time, but it’s hard to leave family… as you know. But maybe someday we just might. Is there any middle school math teacher positions there for mi hubby? tee hee.

P.S. When you said people were looking at you funny, my first thought was, Isn’t Austin’s motto “keep Austin weird”? and then I kept reading. I want to come visit this weirdo place!!!

Sabrina, you can come visit any time! We would LOVE that.

I should have mentioned that most people just looked at me and smiled. :)

Weirdos.

P.S. I added a few pics since I first posted this. Just so you know.

I love it- and I love your chairs! I am sitting on mine right now (they are light purple and are from ACE hardware because WE DON’T HAVE A TARGET WAHHH) and we buy our house TODAY. And I think I might start just writing again.

I’m so excited that you are loving it, and that your new home is working out so well.

I love the back back porch. It is so very cozy and homey.

After I read the words “Super Target” everything else was a blur.

Glad to hear that you made it there and you are all well.
The preschool next door is definitely a win. Looks like you’re off to a great start.
Very happy for you!

Girl! I didn’t know you were moving to Austin! We’re practically neighbors. (Well, not exactly. But my dad lives there.) Be sure to check out the live music and the BBQ. Austin is a great city.

Congratulations on your new home! Moving is so exhausting and exhilarating and hard and fun and sad . . . looking forward to hearing about your new start!

Welcome to Austin! I only discovered your blog a few weeks back so it’s especially fun to learn you’ve moved to our city. We moved to Austin from New York two summers ago and I’ve shared much of the journey at my blog. Please do feel free to email me if you need anything I might be able to offer.

Grace and peace,
Tamara Murphy

Congratulations on your move to your new home! In the late 1980’s, we moved to Mid-Central Virginia to Lynchburg (Liberty University). We were brand new Christians and going back to college with two children in tow. After living there a few years; ya-all came naturally, without even thinking. I’ve lost it since moving away. One cute thing that happened was that our son picked up the Southern accent from the area. He was young when we moved, so he has since lost that, too.

We’re so happy to have you here! Was that your first time at Sonic? It’s a semi regular treat for my girls, who call the cherry limeades “special drinks.” They are a Texas summer must have.
