It’s halfway through November, but whatever

November 16, 2011

These are my ninjas. All parts to these costumes as pictured above are now strewn about the house. There were plastic swords and knives involved, that could be slid into a backpack type of ninja-wearing thing but most of them are gone. Somewhere in the yard or the playhouse or probably downstairs, buried in Legos. The masks? Maybe under a bed or something.

But for one day, the boys were TOTAL ninjas and they loved every second of it. Especially the candy part. Right before trick or treating was coming to a close for us, they started actually saying trick or treat and thank you. This is progress. They don’t like talking to random people. Even random people with candy.

Since that night, we’ve been battling sickness, each of us. Elsie has her first ear infection and right now as I type this, I’m trying to ignore the chills and the cough and the constant blowing of my nose. Aren’t you glad to have that mental picture and aren’t you glad I can’t breathe on you through a screen?

The other day, Ryan called from work and said that his boss was talking about moving us to Austin, TX. !!! In short, it’s really actually up to us, but it would be kind of silly not to do it. The potential for Ryan’s job security and growth would be much better and all that kind of jazz. It wouldn’t happen for a year or so, but it’s a possibility.

No matter how scary and new and different, I really like the word possibility.

Who knows what will end up happening in time but for now that’s what we know.

We might lose all the parts to the Austin costume at some point, but for now we’re enjoying kicking around the idea of warm (HOT) weather and the potential to live in a city that people rave about. Just think, we could go from sounding like Minnaaahhhsooohhhtaaahhhhns to Texans. Or maybe a mix of the two. You knooooh, like the longest and slowest drawn out drawl ever.

I’m trying to do very little today because that’s what I’m sloooowly learning to do when I’m not feeling well. But I still made brownies, easy ones, and Asher is so excited about them. I just took them out of the oven because the toothpick came out clean and then I set them on the stovetop to cool a bit. Then I re-thought the placement and moved them to the back just in case excited fingers reach for the hot pan.

What are you doing?

Hope your house is germ free soon. Can the ninjas battle them away?

Austin for the win! I hear it’s just like Madison only more south and warmer. How exciting!

Texas and ninjas and tissues and brownies. There is such peace in just… living.

I can’t imagine you without your Minnahhsooohhhtah words. But you’d be near Kim. And that is happy.

I made a cake today. It called for a teaspoon of vanilla. But I looked away while the butter melted (to answer an email of course) and my four year old helper had added an unknown number of half-full vanilla teaspoons to the flour mixture. We baked it anyway, naturally.

Austin ranks as the number one city in Texas, if for no other reason than they have as many trees as Berkeley CA. Austin City Limits… South by Southwest music festival… University town which is almost always a good thing for cultural and educational diversity. If I didn’t already live in Berkeley I would consider Austin—better weather for sure. Good luck I hope you get to go.

The ninjas are adorable, so glad they had a fun Halloween.
We lived in TX for 3 years (Dallas) and we loved loved loved it. We visited San Antonio for a day or two, but I never made it to Austin. Everybody RAVES about it….and when I watch all those house hunters shows on HGTV, Austin is the place to live.
I hope you feel better.
Me? Today?? It has been non stop housework. I am happy that I was well enough to do it though.
Take care, Suz

I was born in Texas. We moved 6 months later. That concludes my knowledge of the state. :) Like you, though, I like the idea of possibilities.

Hope you feel better soon. Also…pass the brownies please. :)

OK, you know I live here in Austin and I love it and would not have it any other way, but I have to warn you (just as I warned Kim when she moved here), you may like hot but you don’t know HOT until you live in Austin during the the never-ending Summer. O-M-G.

Regardless, we can swim from April to October and that’s pretty cool! Plus, the weather from Nov-March is pretty awesome! You would laugh at all the people who wear JACKETS and JEANS when it’s 65 degrees out, lol.

Plus, you already got a pretty good friend base if/when you move here : ).

Your little guys were super cute ninjas! I’m sorry to hear you have all been battling the sickness, that is no fun at all.

A move. I dream of moving (one day). Possibility is such a great thing.

Austin? AWESOME! Did you know that is where I am from and we visit several times a year? All of my side of the family is still in that area. :-) I could see you more! Plus, you’d be “neighbors” with Lisa and Kim! SO FUN!

The boys look great in their costumes and yes, we have costume parts all around here too… ;)

Austin!

And ninjas and brownies and slowing down!

(I’d miss you and the thought that one day we’d live close enough o each other that our kids could play and we could sip coffee.)

I love the word possibility, too!

Lara November 16, 2011 at 10:09 pm

And then you wouldn’t have to deal with winter….

I like possibility too. But I do wonder whatever made me move away from Phoenix. Especially right about now!

And I love your Ninja boys!

Some people are deathly afraid of change. I like it. New adventures are exciting :)

I’ve never been to Texas, but I know that everyone who lives there or has lived there at one point in their lives talks as if it is the most fabulous place to live, ever, on the whole planet. I’m pretty sure Texas pride is NOT A JOKE.

What am I doing? I’m staying up late for the first time in weeks and weeks because I am officially no longer pregnant sick. I’m still pregnant, just not barfing anymore and it feels so good. I DO need to sleep though, but oh, to have the luxury of just staying up a few extra minutes to get stuff done, without having to worry about how sick it’s going to make me feel… it’s bliss.

Austin is a fabulous town. I like Texas. I’ve also never lived anywhere else (I live in north Texas though) so not much perspective. ;)

Right now I’m trying to find a sitter because Husband sent a text saying find one and let’s go on a date. Hopeful.

I love reading your thoughts and words. I understand the everything that comes with the possibility of a move. We’ve done it so often. The percolating questions that bubble sometimes explode and sometimes just quietly pop. xo
