The boys and I headed over to pick us up some tasty Mexican goodness from Chipotle for lunch today. Ryan is working out of his home office, and at one point he wanted to eat lunch. (I know, so demanding!) I had me a mad craving for the best take-out burrito with lots of guac yumminess. So I took Ryan’s order and off we went.
You know what I think Chipotle is missing? A drive-thru. Wouldn’t that just be the best? No unbuckling of the car seats and no, “Miles, stay right here we’re in a parking lot do not move stay by the tire,” would need to be said. No unbuckling of another car seat and lifting of the 20+ pound baby onto the hip, while grabbing a tiny preschool hand and pulling it across the parking lot, hats flying off in the wind. No, with a drive-thru, there would be none of that.
Then there’s the waiting in line while the baby continuously tries to throw himself out of my arms and the three year old keeps wandering, making us lose our place in line. No, with a drive-thru there would be none of that.
Have you ever tried to order under those conditions? I can’t stay focused, even when I’m by myself, so to order three things, keeping track of who likes what toppings, stopping every three seconds to wrangle someone…ugh.
But more than any of that, today I would have liked a drive-thru because then I probably wouldn’t have hit that guy in the parking lot. No, I know I wouldn’t have. I wouldn’t have been backing out of a parking space because I would have gone through the drive-thru!
I swear I didn’t see him. It wasn’t road rage. He was in his car, thank God, not on foot. But I was backing out of my spot, carefully looking over my shoulder and yet, “CRACK!!!”
“What was that mommy?”
“Um, I guess I hit a car.”
“WHY?”
SO I got out and said, “Hello Sir, are you okay?” He smiled. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking “thank God he’s not yelling at me.” We both admitted fault, backing out at the exact same moment, in each other’s blind spots. whoops.
I think he and I both may be just a bit accident prone. Because when I bent down to take a look at the damage to his car, he did too. At the exact same time and, “CRACK!!!,” we bonked heads!
Then we laughed sheepishly, as if to say, “we’re both idiots. Good day.”
And we left, no real harm done.
Well okay. There are some pretty hefty scratches on our bumper. You know, the kind you don’t really feel excited to tell your husband about. So I would have waited to tell Ryan about them until later because I’m good at stalling on things like that. But he came up from the office for lunch and Miles said, “we were in the car..and..and…and there was a conk and then I said is it dented mommy and she said no, it’s just a scratch.”
“Heather, what is he talking about?”
silence…..
“SWEETIE?!?”
So I told him some mean guy hit me on purpose in the parking lot and then screamed at me and threatened my life. Thank God we got out alive and some such thing.
So now Ryan’s not mad at me either.
(okay, I didn’t say that. I told him the truth and he quickly understood and forgave my mishap while laughing hysterically at the head-bonking part. Aw, I got me a good one.)

C’mon…….you’re taking creative liberties with the head bonking….right!?
I do not tell a lie.
I promise.
Believe it or not, this stuff really happens to me :)
Why DOESN’T Chipotle have a drive through???? I would go more often.
I loved that you bonked heads. You know if you were single he would’ve been “the one”.
Maybe you should not be so friendly with joolee right now since she is dissin’ my party. But it’s your call.
Um, “the one” maybe, but I doubt it cause he was about sixty.
Bwahahahah!
That is too, too bizarre!
I would totally sign the Chipotle Drive-Thru petition. If it’s hard to get in and out NOW with toddlers in tow, it’s darn-near impossible in the winter.
“We’re both idiots. Good day!” I’m still laughing over that one.
Yeah, the head bonking is classic!
I’m thinking we need drive-thrus everywhere: Blockbuster, the library, church. Okay, maybe not church. But there are some days when loading and unloading the kiddos is almost too much for me to handle. Is that sad and pathetic? Probably, but it’s true nonetheless.
mmmmm … Chipotle!
I agree! Everything should have a drive-thru! Including the grocery store.
(No wonder I’ve gained some weight recently, if I really think it’s too difficult to walk through the grocery store!)
mmmmm…Mexican. Love me some mexican…
I agree with the drive-through thing. Everything should have a drive-through. A mommy only drive-through so there’s no huge line. I haven’t worked out the logistics of it yet…but it’s going to be AWESOME!
PS. Don’t you love that when these things occur, you can spend the drive home thinking about how you’re going to write it up for your blog?! That’s what got me through cleaning the poop out of my bathtub last night!
I really can’t even tell you how often Mark and I have lamented Chipotle’s lack of a drive-thru. What a pain to haul the kids in there!
Although, if they had one, I would probably never cook again . . .
Oh, I feel your pain. Mine are a year older than yours, but the toddler/preschooler dynamic duo can be pretty tough sometimes, huh? As for the car, I’m glad everyone was okay. It was a funny story.
That is hilarious and sounds just like the stuff that I do everyday! Love it!
I would be satisfied merely to have a chipotle anywhere within a twenty mile radius from here – drive-thru or not! But seriously, when we go out to eat with our kids, we rarely go anywhere that doesn’t have a drive-thru. They are a HUGE convenience.
We love Chipotle over here! They’re one of the only places that has almost entirely gluten-free food (all except the flour tortillas). I just wish somebody would get them to turn their music down. It is always too darned loud in there, which adds to the toddler chaos, in my opinion.
Okay, so I’m just jealous that you have a Chipotle’s because I love mexican food, but don’t have anything close to that here. (Except Taco bell, or Taco time) both of which, I’m glad to say have drivethrus, although, their take on mexican might be slightly unauthentic and definitely americanized.
I laughed so hard, I was crying when I read that you two actually bumped heads. I’m sure the people I work with were wondering just how sane their supervisor was. And I apologize for laughing, but really, that’s golden! The icing on the cake, or in this occasion, the guacamole on the burrito!
Thanks for such a delightful tale.
Although, I’m sorry to hear about the scratches on your vehicle – that part makes the story more sobering.
I heart Chipotle so much and when we moved from Chicago I had to bid it farewell. Man how I miss that place. If it had a drive thru I might drive all the way back to Chicago just to get me some. That would be perfection.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. So nice to meet you :)
This is hilarious. YOU’RE hilarious! Love it. (First time I’ve heard of Chipotle, too–besides the spice, of course)
Ouch! When I had my little “knock out the parking lights” incident earlier this year, I was too embarassed to blog about it.
Keep that significant other around!
