I have three different glasses of water on my desk. Two green glasses and one orange. I don’t know how that happened. I was trying to fill in the November calendar on the wall and be sure to fill in the google calendar at the same time so that it will send me reminders to my phone.
I need reminders because this week the kids in kindergarten are wearing a certain color each day and I even have to put that on the calendar because I am always always That Mom that forgets. Like last week, Asher went to his preschool Halloween party with no costume.
Then I felt awful. He didn’t seem to mind though. They got to see a fire truck that day anyway.
Another day I’m supposed to remember to bring a cucumber because they’re making pickles and then another day it’s Asher’s day to bring the snack. Then part-way through the month I need to remember that it’s Invite-a-Veteran-to-Lunch day at Miles’ school and so we’ll bring Bapa. Then I added my own writing types of things in the calendar and other events and birthdays and stuff and then it was full. Which means it will be Christmas month in five seconds.
Red Day, Blue Day, Veteran’s Lunch Day, Cucumber Day…
Mothers have a lot of random things sitting on all of their other thoughts. Today I’m writing them down and typing them in for the keeping track. But I stopped for a moment because Miles wanted me to draw a bat with bird legs and feet and so I did. Then I drank a lot of water from the orange glass like I was preparing for the sprint through November and then I laughed when Miles said, Guess what I’m going to tell you, Mom?
What?
Happy Halloween!!!
You too, little man. Now let’s go be in October and get some candy.

Seriously… when you look at it like that, Christmas really is going to be in five minutes isn’t it. I want to hang onto these holidays. But I’m so not ready for them.

Yes, I’ve been That Mom many a time, too. It hurts, yes? But just for a second. Happy October-ing to you and your littles! xo

I’m not a fan of a full calendar, Al those things sitting on your thoughts. I love that part.

I have always hated Christmas stuff out before Halloween and yet this year Christmas seems so very soon and I even downloaded a Christmas countdown app for the kids. Christmas music. And Halloween isn’t even over.
And I have to take deep, deep breaths and just….go or otherwise I will find myself drowning in our calendar. I think “How in the world do 4 small people have so many big things to do???”

I love your free writing, Heather. This isn’t going to come out the way I mean it, but I always get stuck trying to free write something deep. I wish I could accomplish that with the more day-to-day moments and do it as beautifully as you do.

That is a lot of “special days” to remember. I feel like I’d be bound to forget more than one. Go you and your Google calendar!

My little one isn’t even in school yet but I already depend on my Google calendar reminders. “Mothers have a lot of random things sitting on all of their other thoughts.” – I love that – it’s so true. Hope you all had a great Halloween!

Too much to remember some days….but it is wonderful when you remember the most important parts. Like those moments. SO sweet.

You can leave them both, that’s fine. :)
Love this! And, oh, how I can relate. I always seem to be *that* mom at school, the one who forgets. And I seriously can’t believe it’s already November.
You wrote this so deftly … captures perfectly how I feel right this minute.

Oh yes, I know how you feel. Except November is perhaps our slowest,or at least, slower month. Thanks for reminding me to update our calendar!

Three glasses of water. Yeah, I heard that sister.
I am so forgetful. So so so forgetful. One day it was bring an apple day. I was so excited that I remembered. But I couldn’t remember if I was supposed to bring one for Brigham or one for his whole class. So I brought the whole sack of apples. They thought I was an overachiever. But really, I just didn’t want to look stupid again.

I have teenagers and still use the master “Mom” calendar. But I will say that I’m glad that the days for being responsible for snack are long gone.

I forgot it was “hat day” last Wednesday at G’s school. But you know, he’s not really into hats anyway, so it’s all good. ;)

So I just wrote my first “Just Write” and I realized it is quite impossible for me to write without a theme. Must work on that! I started out writing about the daunting task of doing bills and BOOM! theme. Next week…description! Thanks for inspiring us all. :)
Lisa @ Heaven Sent recently posted..Enough
Hi Lisa!
You know what? It’s GOOD to uncover a theme. I just love it when writing is done in a free way–one where you describe the details of experience until you accidentally uncover a theme (and if you don’t, that’s fine too). I hope that makes sense. I’ve noticed that when I TRY to write around a theme…like sit down to write specifically to get a message across, my writing loses something. but if I just start writing and the story reveals something like a theme, it’s more powerful. Wow. I’m rambling. :) Anyway! My point? Not that there’s a “right” way to do it, but you’re doing it :)
I knew this was a great post to include in your just write series. Thank you for hosting, Heather.
And it was wonderful to see you on Saturday, you light up a room, as always!
