Winter even blows through Austin, Texas. You might not have known that. My blood has thinned through summer or so folks say, and I am consistently cold, buried under layers of blankets, two pairs of socks on, and an extra sweater. The rain keeps falling down and down and puddles around tree trunks and along curbs. The kids keep forgetting it’s not 100 degrees. Just yesterday, Asher came rushing back inside, bare feet and a t-shirt and shorts. It was 30-something out there and he was flushed and shaking.
We hadn’t seen his exit, just agreed to it from the other room and off he went. We just assumed he had on shoes, and pants, and a jacket. But assuming with little boys is for the birds.
This calls for hot cocoa, just like Minnesota. And a talking-to or seven, about the benefits of dressing for the weather.
All of this makes me miss our old fireplace and as we start to miss these small things, we are pulled to the recognition of buried feelings. Missing family as the holidays draw closer.
We have plans, it will be good. We have such good people surrounding us here, their friendship is a family of its own kind. We simply miss those people who have known us since and share all the holiday memories with us from all the years.
Elsie has been wearing a coat and her hair is getting so long. She’s speaking complete English sentences and knows her colors and can almost completely count to ten. I want her grandparents to witness it all, right here, apart from screens.
Especially the way she walks in pink cowboy boots.

Love you. So grateful for you. Wishing you a peaceful new tradition this year. xoxxo
Lovely write up, I truly enjoyed reading this article!! I must say Elsie is looking cutie wearing those winter outfits and her Pinky boots are most favorite. Good to know her English speaking skill is very much improved and I hope Elsie grandparents will be delighted after witnessing such progress of Elsie. Thanks and take care.
