The Noggin Speaks

November 4, 2008

Would you believe that Asher gave me a heart attack this morning? Of course you would.

He’s been my 5am alarm clock for months, but today he slept until 7am. When I turned to look at the clock and hadn’t heard a peep from him all night, I panicked. I went to his crib and he popped right up and giggled at me. I was so relieved I nearly squeezed him to pieces.

I realize it’s a bit irrational to fear he may never wake up, but I’m as hyper-alert and paranoid as the next mother. Most of the time I find myself strangely peaceful, reassured in the fact that his will be a routine surgery. But here and there I have a moment of fear. These moments sneak up on me on tip toe and trip me up. (How rude.)

And now, here’s your real-life peek at Asher, one of the three guys that brings the goodness to my life. Watch out! This video will make you want to squeeze his cheeks. Enjoy.

Stay tuned for another video installment coming soon entitled, “From the Mouth of Miles:Video Edition” (you can hardly stand the suspense, I know!)

Thank you SO MUCH for posting video of this little guy.

I’ve never seen such squishy cheeks in all the length of my days.

Love that final laugh. So cute.

And here’s to many more full nights of sleep to come!!

Kimberly November 4, 2008 at 2:31 pm

I have never, ever, seen such squishable cheeks! What a cutie!

You still haven’t shown up on my Reader today (I came earlier when I realized it was after your usual time and you still weren’t up), just so you know, maybe that’s why you don’t have 64 comments yet, like you usually might. But mostly it’s none of my business and I just came here to also tell you that I really love the collage on your header. Very extraordinarily ordinary. Wait, that doesn’t sound all nice like it was meant to. Anyway, I love it.

Squishy squishy squishy! Or as Bart Simpson would say, “That’s good squishy!”

So cute.

Hi.

Heidi Ashworth November 4, 2008 at 3:49 pm

You’re right! Those cheeks are addictive! What a happy camper and with all he is putting up with, too! What a guy! I love your home decor, by the way!

Abra November 4, 2008 at 4:07 pm

So cute, and I love his gentle little voice! What a happy little guy :)

I think I would be a super paranoid mom.

Steph @ Diapers and Divinity November 4, 2008 at 4:17 pm

you’re right. So adorable! I know what you mean about the paranoia… isn’t it cruel irony that we can’t sleep even when everyone else is sleeping just fine?!

Brooke November 4, 2008 at 4:44 pm

He’s just so precious! Love the squishable loveable cheeks!

Carolyn November 4, 2008 at 4:46 pm

I’ll keep your family in my prayers. I know it’s “routine” and all but it can’t hurt to be praying.

Keyona November 4, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Hey what happened to the cake?? Oh well I guess I’ll settle and nibble on some yummy Asher cheeks.

Sara@ Butterville November 4, 2008 at 4:49 pm

I’m really glad it was a video post today. AM I old if I say the print is small and hard for me to read without leaning right up to the screen to read it? Totally squeezy cheeks!

Erin November 4, 2008 at 4:51 pm

I love the little squeal at the end of the video. He does have very cute squishy cheeks!

Sabrina November 4, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Oh I hearts me that little boy!!!

Elizabeth November 4, 2008 at 5:14 pm

He’s precious. He and my baby girl would get along fabulously, and she even has fluffy cheeks to match!

minnesotamom November 4, 2008 at 5:26 pm

What a sweet video! I love the panting as he hustles over to (I presume) Daddy. Ha ha!

Gideon Burton November 4, 2008 at 7:57 pm

I just wanna squish him! He looks happy and healthy and I am sure the surgery will go just fine. Looking forward to M!

Kazzy November 4, 2008 at 8:00 pm

That last comment from Gideon is really from me. Hubby forgot to log out. I am laughing my head off and he is mortified!!

Debbie November 4, 2008 at 11:08 pm

I think I would certainly have done the same thing. He is so darn cute.

Marivic_Little GrumpyAngel November 4, 2008 at 11:51 pm

You’re right. Thanks for the warning. I do want to squeeze his cheeks and squish him tight. Just adorable.

And about the heart attack thing, you are not irrational at all! It still happens to me even now that my kids are teen-agers. If both are home but the house is too quiet I go check to see if they’re okay. I like it better when they’re arguing or goofing or pestering me about stuff. Then I know all is well with the world.

Peanut November 5, 2008 at 6:46 am

Awwwww… he’s so sweet!

And I don’t blame you for worrying… I worry if my kids nap longer than usual!

Praying that all will go well over the next few days for you guys :)

Becky November 5, 2008 at 11:58 am

“I realize it’s a bit irrational to fear he may never wake up…”

Well, it wouldn’t be motherhood if it were completely rational and logical, would it? :)

You’re gonna hear it all day, but here it is anyway: your kid is adorable!!

Lisa November 5, 2008 at 2:49 pm

He is darling! I love that age!

MoziEsmé November 5, 2008 at 3:54 pm

What an adorable crawler!

I’ve done that “shameful” thing of waking up my sleeping kid just to make sure she’s okay since she NEVER sleeps through the night! I wish it would happen more often :)
