Stripes

A day at the water park, cooling off in the water and soaking up the sun?

Summer bliss in my book.

(And this place is a mere three blocks from our house-I love that.)

I’m pretty sure these water park days will be ear-marked in the memory books of my boys, too.

Asher, Miles and strong friend, E

Oh My Serious Fun.

I love to watch them play in the water, rush down the slide, water drops dripping from their noses. I love the way water keeps their minds busy for hours, while I sit and take it all in. But this last time, what I loved the most was the way Asher snuggled into me after getting hurt, wrapped in a towel and fell fast asleep. It’s been a really long time since I snuggled a sleeping boy baby, rocking back and forth and nuzzling blond hair. (They are just growing far too big.) I loved it, every second of it, even while I knew I needed sunscreen that I couldn’t reach for without waking him, and therefore fried my Scandinavian-pale arms and legs.

These red and white stripes across me are totally worth it. Kind of like stretch marks.

This post is a part of Tuesdays Unwrapped at Chatting at the Sky. Thank you, Emily.

I love sleeping toddlers on me! That stage of parenting disappeared WAAAY too quickly, so, like you, when it happens, I treasure it. :) Adorable pics.

My little G is turning 4 soon and the snuggly naps are few and far between, but so precious. The pictures of your kids have inspired me to take her to the water park today – their enthusiasm is contagious! Thanks.

Aw. I guess we can add sunburn to the list of Mommy Badges of Honor. :)

your boys are so adorable, Heather.

Oh how I love snuggling a sleeping toddler – it rarely ever happens here. Actually I don't remember the last time it did! So sad.

minnesotamom June 22, 2010 at 11:02 am

I totally would've snuggled, too. Burn away, sun. :)

Alyson (New England Living) June 22, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Oh, I love that too! And your photos captured it perfectly!

I also love how sleepy the kids get after a day in the water. Nice break for mommy. :)

Oooh, I'm itchin' for a trip to the water park! Love that last photo. So much fun!

Wendi@Every Day Miracles June 22, 2010 at 12:55 pm

I'm sure they will remember it all with delight! Those are the things I just love; things that my boys will remember and tell their kids about. :) -Love the pictures!

I love the way you love those boys of yours. The world is a scary place, but infinitely less so with hearts like yours decorating it.

Unexpected cuddle times are one of my most favorite moments in life. Sunburn and everything.

Stretch marks, burn stripes, eye-baggage, gray hair. It's all what makes us Beauty Moms. :)

Kristen @ Motherese June 22, 2010 at 2:24 pm

Red and white stripes, eh? Just add some white stars on a blue background and you'll be all set for July 4th next week!

xo

Ooozing jealousy. Over the park, and the cuddles. Summer is not nearly so exciting here.

JCK June 22, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Lovely. I'm ready for water play. 2 more days of school here.

I'm getting that snuggling in… My GIRL will be in Kindergarten and my BOY will be in 1st grade. I can't believe it!

Kendra is sitting here looking at pictures of Miles and Asher and wants to babysit (for real). She says they are super cute. Let me know–I can hook you up!

so cool!

My daughter is still a hugger but even so any time she wants a nice long hug I cannot resist, it is so lovely to just sit and hold and be held and feel that soft baby hair under your chin and those soft little arms around you.

Your photos are great.

My OJ fell asleep in my arms last week for the first time in….forever. He's so bad sometimes that I forget how much I can love him. LOL Seriously, I have to remind myself that I love that kid because he's so darned ornery and stubborn, and on PURPOSE. How dare he.

:)

I really wish I could take my boys to the pool everyday this summer, but alas the infant does not allow me that luxury. I am bummed. Please enjoy extra sun for me.

MommyJ June 22, 2010 at 8:10 pm

Last summer, I was at the pool with my kids almost every day. I've only been once this year, and I had my husband with me. Let's just say I'm terrified to try it all alone… with FIVE kids. Tomorrow I'm going with a friend. Wish me luck!

I love swimming pools and water parks. There is just something so magical childhood about it. One 3 blocks away sounds great!

I love that you got towel cuddle time. Totally worth a burn.

Kelly @ Love Well June 22, 2010 at 10:52 pm

Three blocks from the water park? I would have bought your house just for that feature alone.

I love swimming and pool and lakes and all things water-related. So this whole thing made me smile. (As did the mental image of you looking like a happy candy cane. I did that too, Memorial Day weekend.)

Kazzy June 23, 2010 at 1:28 am

Cute! They look so incredibly happy!

I haven't had a sleeping kid on me for a while now but I miss it like crazy. My kids are all old enough now that I get quick hugs but long snuggles are only when they are sick. I don't wish for them to be sick but….

Angie June 23, 2010 at 7:27 am

Wonderful! Soak it all up, friend. These moments pass too quickly, and your boys are soaking up the memories, too. Don't you just love summer? Stripes and all?

rebecca @ altared spaces June 23, 2010 at 11:17 am

I fell asleep on my son's lap just recently. Just for a few minutes. He was so sweet to pause while I rested. His big 13 year old body looking at birds overhead.

The sweetness in reverse is no less adored. But no sunburn.

Jenn June 23, 2010 at 2:11 pm

What a fun day! I'm sure your boys will remember these days.

My mom used to take us to the lake regularly when my sisters and I were young. I remember those days with such fondness.

Lisa June 23, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Nothing says "summer" and "fun" like that last pic….great. And, snuggle time? Awesome!

patty June 24, 2010 at 9:26 pm

so sweet.. don't know if i liked the comparison to sretch marks, or the memory it triggered of the weight of my sleeping toddler on my chest. i so loved that.

patty June 24, 2010 at 9:27 pm

oops… i meant don't know which memory i liked BETTER! :)
