He’s hilarious, this boy. He gets so so so excited about things like popcorn. He jumps up and down and flaps his arms because Friday night is movie night with popcorn. He also loves Fridays because my sister comes to be with him. They run errands and he calls her Auntie Slushy. That’s because she always gets him an icee slushy from the gas station.
And then he says ridiculous things like,
Daddy! ‘Go’ means poop AND ‘Go’ means drive!
Um. Yeah.
I worry about him because of his hydrocephalus. I mean, I worry about shunt malfunctions and when he doesn’t feel right, I hover a bit and I ask a lot of questions. But you know what? Other than that, he’s this boy that I don’t really have to worry about. He’s just so happy. He rolls with the punches. He overcomes. He loves life. He listens and he jumps up to go feed the dog likes it’s the most fun ever.
Maybe I should worry that life is going to steal his spark, but I’m not going to worry about that. His light is seriously bigger than life.
I want to be more like him. I’m not very good at it, but just for today, I’m going to try. And then tomorrow, he’ll show me how to do it again.

This is beautiful.
Kids teach us so much, and how to live life with a spark would top of the list, I would have to think!

Sweet, sweet boy. I don’t think I knew about his health. But you’re right, they can teach us so much no matter what!
p.s. I am stupid and sent an email to you when I meant to send it to another Heather! Please forgive me, although a lot of that email could pertain to you as well.
You were amazingly kind to me at Blogher and I will never forget it.

“‘Go’ means poop AND ‘Go’ means drive!” is a brilliant observation! (“Do you have to ‘go’ before we leave the house?” and “Green means ‘go.'”) You should tell him to be on the look out for other things “go” means, because there are lots. (Since of course “go” can really mean any kind of motion (“Go, runner, go!”) and it can just mean to leave “Where did all the flowers go?” and .. well, you get know this already.) He’s such a bright penny!
He is SO adorable in that first pic that I just want to hug the stuff outta him!! You know, in a gentle way.
“Auntie Slushy” is too cute!!

Asher’s comment about “Go means Poop”, reminds me of the time we were at Selena’s house and Elliott wouldn’t go to bed… and then he said he ate Poop for dinner. You and i tried so hard not laugh, but really it was soooo funny!!
I think every little boy goes through a “poop” stage and I love it! :)

My son never left the poop stage. He’s 14 now. I’m trying to see it as charming as this bright blue photo. Um, yeah. Not so much.
But his giggle still slays me.

He is so cute and you really can see his love for life in these pics. It makes you just want to try and preserve that in him and for him. And maybe steal a little for yourself. :)

“His light is bigger than life”…amen. Love that line.
I work in a Children’s Hospital and these kids? Are amazing. I’m in awe of their strength and resillience.
Your son is adorable and he has a very big spark indeed.
PS. Tell him to pass the popcorn will ya ;)

What a great kid! (and a great post!) His glasses slay me. Do they always match the popcorn bowl?
