Just Write {35}

May 14, 2012

A robin was looking right back at me when I looked up. An orange breast just staring at me from a branch next to the kitchen window. I said HI out loud because when you live in the land of mostly cold weather, seeing a robin sends a flood of renewal through your toes and fingertips.

I set down the dirty dish I was about to put in the dishwasher and I went out back to let out the chickens and then to watch them. There is heat in the morning air and there is a new kind of first light I wear flip flops or no shoes and see longer grass every morning.

The boys are sprinkler jumping and bubble blowing and Elsie is sitting in the grass and taking it all in. She’s new here, to spring, and I think she likes it. Especially the grass and the chickens. The chickens make her whole self jump around with the sight of them.

I needed renewal and I needed to put some things down and step outside.

Love this. And I can just picture Elise bobbing with glee at the chickens.
As for the renewal of those spring mornings….I’m 100% with you. Finally, my whole self is saying. FINALLY. There are some things that only fresh air and flip flops can fix.

What a lovely picture you just painted. During a usual winter I eagerly await for “my robin” to show up–it would be hard to stop myself from saying Hi out loud.
Those chickens look so happy!

Beautiful. I love those early spring days and the first trips outside. Lovely.

I am always in amazement at how a simple walk outside can change my perspective. And your waiting for the arrival of warm weather gives me perspective as we have been in the 80’s already. Its good to think outside my neighborhood.

I also say “hi” out loud to animals and sunrises and dandelions and pretty cumulus clouds over this farm.

We’ve been blessed in Iowa with a warmer-than-usual spring. You, too?

I can appreciate Elise’s reaction to the chickens — I want some chickens too!!

We were ready for Spring here too. Thank goodness for open windows and sunlight.

Springtime is my second favorite season (Fall takes the cake for me). Why don’t we celebrate the New Year in the Spring?! When things – life – just feels so much more new – hope and possibilities and inspiration are so much easier to find now than in January!

So cute. My son would be happy at your house – he loves animals of all kinds.

This is my first time linking up at your meme and I may do so more frequently. This looks like a fun place to be.

I love this post! I talk to our chickens a lot! I even made them names and I tell them my problems sometimes. Are the chickens the only pets you have?

Thanks for sharing!

And I need another baby. To introduce to spring. But maybe I’m just feeling sorry for myself.
