Elsie no hitting!

Asher?
(much crying)
Miles,

why aren’t you dressed?
No,

the dog’s feet are wet
stop, please.
(door opens)
Boxes are all around. In two days, the moving truck is coming. We sat down and made a list and tried to guesstimate how long each thing would take and the total was 27 hours and there is work and kids and life. But the windows are washed and most things are packed and now it’s the mind-bending what goes where and last-minute cleaning and you get the idea.
I have been so peaceful and preparing, organizing, working hard. I’m waiting for a meltdown because I know one is coming. One started to come yesterday but there wasn’t a lot of time for it. It made it hard to talk to Ryan and we started to argue and get frustrated and couldn’t finish a conversation because of interruptions with names. So I pulled him into what was once the office/guest room and I shut the door and cried and said I’m sorry. We hugged. I heard the door open, click. Shuffle of feet. Little arms around both of us. Then more shuffling, two more arms. Then even smaller and quieter shuffling and even smaller arms and we were all there in a group hug, unplanned.
I wept for the goodness of grace.
Asher whispered a worried, Mommy.
It’s okay, I’ve got joy tears that were stressed out tears and I’m going to be okay.
Okay, Mommy. He hopped up a little bouncy-like as kids do and smiled.
They ran off to do their things.
We looked at each other and our eyes said, it is well.

Moving is one of the most stressful things you can do. I hope releasing the stress made it somewhat better. And, as usual, you captured the moment here so well.

As our move becomes more impending I’m getting super stressed out about it. I had forgotten (purposefully I”m sure) how stressful and challenging moving is. It’s been five years since I’ve moved. And last time I moved with one baby and a small apartment of stuff. Now I have two kids and a house with LOTS and lots of things to pack and shelp to Chicago somehow. I’m not looking forward to it, I hope it comes with joy tears and unplanned hugs though.

I understand this so much. My LTYM piece was actually about the meltdown I had during our move from Kentucky to Chicago. So stressful. And yet, now, three years later, I look back at that time with a bit of nostalgia. Maybe, you will too.
Good luck with all of the excitement to come for you and your family.

I hope everything goes well with your move, especially that you have a safe and uneventful move. I hope that the movers treat all of your possessions carefully, so that everything makes the trip perfectly unscathed.
I hope I only break down in tears once. You are amazing.
As we prepare to move, I am becoming overwhelmed with how much I have to do. When we moved last year (which I coincidentally wrote about), I knew it was temporary, so I only unpacked what was necessary. I never hung a painting or unpacked extra dishes. I have fallen apart more than once since we started talking about moving.
We had a few disgruntled words about moving last night, and we haven’t even started packing. We just know it’s coming.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that the meltdown will be minimal and interrupted by lots of group hugs!
Moving is almost as stressful as building a new house and I still remember our last move – from Germany to Canada – over 5 years ago. But you know what? This too shall pass. You will be fine.
