I told you, you can have all of mine
until I’m emptied out
just a shell of me
on the floor
someone else will pick me up
fill me up
empty themselves
to a puddle on the floor
and so it goes
6…7? billion people on the planet
what else are we to do
but fill each other up
off the floor
He said, this morning
you have such a great capacity
for this kind of thing
and you know what?
I do.
I have learned to love
because of people like you
and
there
is
nothing
I’d
rather
do.
I will fight with you and for you when you can’t and I will
bury my face in my life while you do the same in yours,
moment by
exuisitely painful
and beautiful
moment.
I will sit with my knees bent and
burning
into the ground and pour out fear
and turn it into faith because that’s what we do
when we must.
we must.
In her latest post, as Ellie described learning that she has cancer, she said, “Time slowed to a crawl; a second seemed to take a minute. I had all the time in the world to take it all in…So this is what it’s like, I thought, to actually be in a moment. Just one moment. It’s beautiful.”
This poem-ish sort of thing is for my person, Ellie. Please visit her and give her your love and support.

this IS a poem. and a beautiful one. i hate it when cancer brings normalcy to a halt and shatters our belief that we are okay. i will visit your friend and pray for her.
What a wonderful tribute! I have left a comment on her website! You are certainly a beautiful twosome of wonderfulness and strength!
Loving you both.
Nothing like tragedy (or the appearance of one) to discover what’s important. I love this.
I consider you and Ellie my two online sober sisters. Both of you have written beautiful things in the face of something awful. Inspirations, both of you.
I love it when people choose words instead of saying there aren’t any. You are both so beautiful and brave for turning toward the pain.
Oh, my friend. How I love you. Thank you for being my person. Thank you is such a small, small word for what you mean to me. Together we will pour out fear and turn it into faith.
Together.

Your friendship is a beautiful thing. I am glad Ellie has a love like yours to lean on in this scary time.
Beautiful, Heather.
Sending love and support and ease and peace to both of you. This one I’ve done, more than once. Lucky Ellie to have you – let me know what I can do, anytime.
XOXO
A tribute so loving from a friend of the heart. May Ellie find the strength and your support when she needs. I will lift her up to the Universal Healing Power which has sheltered many souls.
