Just Write {79}

April 1, 2013

It was a long day with so much sugar in it. Jelly beans, pastel ones, everywhere and chocolate eggs and Peeps. The boys landed flat on their backs on the couches when the company started to leave, head and stomach aches totally taking over.

Elsie zipped around, bouncing off the walls, with her cheeks full of stolen jelly beans like a little chipmunk.

At bedtime it was a crash and burn situation. There were several requests for more water, more hugs, more stories, more time. The sugar needed to finish doing them in. The two youngest fell silent first, which is almost always the case. Miles has these big blue eyes that stare into the dark longer, with all kinds of activity behind them, his mind zinging and zapping. His synapses are more active than all three of my sugar-over-dosed kids combined.

He went to the bathroom, again. He came to get me after that, telling me his stomach still hurt. I walked him back to his bed and we talked about several ailments. Then he buried his face in his arm and murmured something.

What? I asked. I can’t hear you when you’re mumble-y.

His worry came out with his words then, quickly and quietly, a shy pronouncement.

Oh, that’s what’s bothering you? I’m sorry. I know that’s hard. Let’s try to think of the good parts and then pray.

So we did and while we did he yawned the yawn I know comes right before his eyes close.

I am astounded, but then again I’m not. We are still in this safe place.

Easter 2013

This is the 79th installment of Just Write, an exercise in free writing your ordinary and extraordinary moments. {Please see the details here.} I would love to read your freely written words so join me and link up below. You can add the url of your post at any time. Just be sure it’s a link to your Just Write post, not to your main page, and please don’t link to posts that are not freely written in the spirit of capturing moments–you know, don’t link to how-to lists or sponsored posts. Also, please link back to this post in your post so people know where to go if they’d like to join in.

Please take a moment to visit someone else who has linked up! It’s a really good way to meet new writers and get inspired by the meaning behind their moments. Word? Thank you!

Hi Heather
To be honest, I have been just as overstuffed on sugar this weekend. It seems to me that the older I get, the more fond if Easter eggs and chocolate in general I become. I was spoiled this Easter by my husband with a Lindt chocolate bunnie, with a little bell around its neck!! Yum.

I have one like this, who whispers the problem after hours of “owies”. He worries me and yet, I know him, so it’s going to be alright. I always love your writing.
