Her eyelashes are getting so long that they go out and curve up and then bend straight out to reach a bit further. It’s like they just got tired and had to lie down. I love that.
I love her.
She is a spitfire while still being sweet. (LOOK.OUT.)
We’re still working on helping her, with all of the pain and crying. This means, because I’m nursing, I eat NOT a variety of things, but more like no dairy-no wheat-no soy…I’m The Accidental Gluten-free Vegan.
And I’m hungry. (Don’t worry, Grandma. I’m still eating…it’s just trickier.)
Elsie is so worth it and I’m learning that it’s helping her to refrain from a lot of foods I love and so I do.
I keep meaning to write a post about The Colic and all that we’ve learned after Asher and now Elsie. I feel like kind of an expert. Like maybe I’m a Doctor of Colicology or something. Or a Colicitrician. I do believe we’ve tried EVERYTHING and I actually think some of it helps. So yeah, I need to write that post. I’d like to help other people who are going through this. And if that’s you? I’m sorry. Really sorry. I know it’s hard.
I’m going to do that. I’m going to write that post! Tomorrow. (I made myself type that because it’s hard to get stuff done and if I say that I’m going to do it tomorrow, I have to do it tomorrow. Go team.)
Now pass me the rice milk and quinoa, please. NOW. (I too, am a spitfire.)

I think I went about eight months existing on cous cous and buttered pasta. After a pregnancy of not eating, it was actually an improvement. But still. Those days are long. I remember. Enjoy your quinoa for now. It’s all the rage these days, you know. Contains all essential amino acids. Go you and all you’re doing for your sweet Elsie.

Vegan tips- earth balance! amazing!
Braggs amino acids is great for flavoring.
Hemp milk ice cream, at whole foods forget the brand!
Daiya cheese- great meltability and almost as good as the real thing
Tempeh- great for adding to dishes crumbled for a meat like texture.
Nutritional yeast kinda tastes like parmesan.
Tofu really isn’t that bad if it is pan fried.
toffuti is also good cream cheese
There is a good sour cream recipe floating around too.
Veganaise is also pretty good. But regular mayo is usually dairy free but has eggs.
If you want a vegan GF cupcake recipe just email me, I think it is better than regular cupcakes.
Quinoa mango curry salad is tasty and i believe V and GF!
I would get a dehydrator for fruits too. easier snackability.
any other questions feel free to ask!
Curry is also pretty good and can be GF too.
Hey, just stopped by from MMB. I love the photo–what a sweetie. I haven’t dealt with colic, but I have close friends who have, and I know it’s really hard. I’d love to read more about what you’ve learned about it.

when my boy (now 6 foot tall and 16 years old!) was born (5 weeks early) my friend told me about 3 month colic. when we had got to 6 months and it was still going on she told me she had only said it was 3 months to make it less daunting!
i gave up fizzy mineral water and broccoli on advice from other peeps – no idea if there was any scientific basis or not but i felt that at least i was trying to do something. i used to be up all night with him. all seems a bad dream now but i remember the feeling of madness.

I love those two little folds right before her feet begin.

Ohhh been there done THAT! My 2nd was allergic to milk but it took almost 2 months to figure it out. They kept saying it was “colic”, but it turns out “they” were wrong and I was RIGHT! I cut out the dairy and he quit projectile vomitting and screaming 24/7. It was like having a brand new baby!
Best wishes, it is so hard giving up so many foods but easier when you know its not forever!

I think of you often when my almost 3 month old little boy is fussing uncontrollably and he’s crying and I’m crying and I don’t know how you deal with it, because he doesn’t have colic, he just gets easily overstimulated and stressed sometimes.
On the diet front, I eat grain free/starch free/sugar free/virtually dairy free (except for kefir and homemade yogurt which don’t have any lactose in them) for my own health. It’s hard to get used to but you might find that you feel better too, not just Elsie. I recommend the Comfy Belly website and Elana’s Pantry for awesome recipes. After the initial adjustment I stopped feeling deprived. Last night I made brownies with almond flour and honey…so decadent!

So, my father is a compounding pharmacist and he makes something called colic water. I’ve never had a particularly colicky baby, but I’ve heard it works wonders, and on the occasion that one of my babies has been fussier than normal and I’ve used colic water… it seems to help calm their tummies. The only downside is that it makes your baby smell a little like pickles. Something about what goes in it… but it’s perfectly safe and I’m pretty sure can be purchased over the counter and I would be happy to send you some if you were interested in trying something homeopathic…
And oh, that picture is so sweet.
Precious, perfect photo.
I did crack up at you calling yourself “The The Accidental Gluten-free Vegan”!
Hugs. As always. :)

oh, she is so delicious! she looks like this little tiny butterball, so cozy and cuddly. I know these days are hard, but isn’t it crazy how insanely we love them?

My little guy had “The Colic” **cue dramatic music**. It’s definitely an added stress, but eventually it all worked out ok.
She’s absolutely adorable :)
