He comes in the door weighed down by bags. He got the wrong sandwich meat but who cares, he went grocery shopping for me. He’s a trooper of a man, always helping, especially when I just feel awful and don’t know why but can’t help it.
My husband.
I’m wearing Elsie in the Ergo, with big dark circles under my eyes and I tell him that I think my thyroid must be screwed up. I’m going to get it checked tomorrow. He’s the one that made sure I made the appointment. Now he’s making me lunch.
I just vacuumed again so Elsie would fall asleep. What a hilarious routine. Such a cleanly one. Now I sit here and tell you these little things and wonder how our simple stories can be so interesting to each other, so intriguing. They are the glue that holds our cyberspaces together. We see where we overlap and it’s like a heart-gong and I’m so grateful to be here with you.
Elsie’s small breaths are slow and deep and the clickety-clack of the keyboard is fast and my words not-so-deep. But they are here and they are yours and mine. My little story of a little moment in my day is witnessed and maybe it just makes me feel seen when I’d otherwise feel way too tired to not feel invisible.
One day I won’t be able to strap her to my chest to listen to her breathe. I hear her so closely now. Maybe one day she’ll connect herself to me this way through written words, her stories in a blog or emails…Dear Mom…
I hope so.

supportive spouses, priceless. I have one too…
Oh imagine that. I hope so, too. Noah emails me. It’s pretty awesome.
Steph
PS thank you again for doing what you do.
I miss having my baby in her sling on my chest – for months and months. I guess I am glad I don’t have to vacuum so much anymore though. ;)
“My little story of a little moment in my day is witnessed and maybe it just makes me feel seen when I’d otherwise feel way too tired to not feel invisible.”
Yes. Exactly. This.
I miss wearing my daughter and nowadays snuggle closely as she falls asleep so that I can still listen to the sound of her breathing. I think that is my hope too that she’ll still want to connect with me even when she is bigger…
Thank you for sharing with us each week and for allowing us to share with you and each other. Also glad you are going to the doctor. Sometimes husband’s have a way of reminding us that we need to take care of us too for some reason sometimes we forget :)
p.s. adorable photo!
Oh yes, I *will* gong with you anytime! :)
Adore this, adore you!
xo
I love the part about him buying the wrong meat… and how it doesn’t matter.
I hope for those ‘Dear Mom’ emails too. Thank you for sharing your stories.
You have a wonderful husband, and this little moment is recorded for the blessings you have in life. Maybe your little one will read it someday.
What a good guy. And a lovely slice of life.
These stories that seem mundane or these observations that seem silly…they are indeed a type of glue that binds us. A magnet that attracts us to each other. Thanks for that idea and, as always, thanks for sharing.
I really missed out on carrying my son because I have a really wicked back injury…but what I did do was spend a lot of time rocking in a chair, and snuggles in the bed. It’s amazing how the simplest of things can fill our hearts.
I hope that my son always feels the need to email me…better yet call ;)
Love the photo Heather.
and your write.. it’s truth and love and faith.
I love when my kids fb message me, or email me. Or skype chat. Skype chat is good because it feels like a just write freedom. Especially with daughters who can’t always say what they mean but can write it . Or mothers :).
I miss the days of carrying my wee one in the Mya Wrap. Hold on to these precious moments.
my oldest daughter started a blog that only she and I read and those words… more precious than I ever imagined :)
I hope you’ll get to be blessed with an invitation to your daughter’s soul like I have been :)
I am thinking of you. Just so you know.
(And I read your words just like you write them–looking for the metaphor. I know that you are not usually writing just about your thyroid, the dust, or your crying baby. You are writing to bare your soul and release some of those words that are tugging at your heart. Sometimes life doesn’t make sense, even when we feel incredibly blessed. We are weighed down by uncertainties and crazy hormones and, in my case, just crazy in general. It doesn’t mean you aren’t happy, it means that you are trying to make sense of the weight and maybe to release some of the burden into the internets. I do believe that is what blogging provides and I am so glad you are using it to the fullest.)
I am forever grateful for this comment. YES. You put into words why I’m here. Thank you.
Amazing. Just amazing… and funny that the old vacuuming trick still holds it’s weight. Thanks for the wonderful share!
Beautiful, honey. I had my thyroid checked after both of my babies because I felt just like you. Something was wrong, but I didn’t know what. I am so glad you have your husband to go shopping, even if he gets the wrong meat.

Tears! I just love love what you’ve put together here and all the beautiful posts you’ve inspired us to write!
I’ll be hosting a link up on Thursday based on my post (#12). We’ll be writing on “This is How We…Sleep” this week. Stop by if you’d like to join in. Thanks CJ for the idea! http://growingslower.blogspot.com/
I would not survive without my supportive husband. I don’t know how others do!
My daughter is in first grade and her favorite thing is school is her writing workshop. As a writer myself, it makes me so proud and so excited to think she might love to write too!
Wrong sandwich, always. And Heart-gong. Love this.
It is very possible she will one day. My daughter is eight, and loves to send me emails. She also has been dropping hints about a blog for the last couple of months. I’m still thinking through it, but feeling excited to see her interest.
I love reading your small moments. They are lyrical.
Supportive husbands who will do the grocery shopping? wonderful! Simply wonderful!
I smiled at the very first sentences because I have a man who does stuff like that for me too. Oh and the dark circles? Yeah, I have prize-winning ones.
I’m always amazed, also, at how our “little” stories intrigue each other. Truly.
The vacuuming to get her to sleep… that image brings me back to my days with babies, which I guess weren’t that long ago. But geez they feel like they were.
I hope you’re doing ok with your thyroid issue.
xo
Too lucky to have him on your life, it will be great if sometimes you’ll give him some incentives or a treat that will make him feel happy and that he was being valued not just a trooper and a father but most likely a great man. If I were to choose my man, it would have been like him that I know for sure that he’ll take care of us no matter what. But unfortunately, I have dodge onto someone which I less expect that won’t leave us.
