It was pretty ironic that on a day when I really needed a mental health break, I got an email saying that The Extraordinary Ordinary has been nominated on Circle of Moms for the Top 25 Mental Wellness Blogs Written By Moms.
I’ll admit, I chuckled. I said something to myself about my own current mental health and I chuckled. Don’t get me wrong, it’s truly an honor to be nominated…I’m just being honest. I mean, after all, I did leave Ellie a message yesterday that said that I was sitting on the couch eating marshmallows and had absolutely no desire to move. Then I asked her voicemail, Is that so bad?
I was simply practicing self-care, of course. Having a rest. And some sugar.
My boys and I have had a solo week and I’m really pregnant, what can I say? (I am always thinking of single parents when Ryan is gone for work. Seriously, friends. I don’t know how you do it and I think the world of you.)
Miles and Asher and I have had some fun though, no worries. Like going out for pancakes…
We love pancakes.
Anyway, if you’d like to vote for The EO you can just click the Circle of Moms button below and then scroll down to my picture and click on the thumbs up. It’s that easy. No login or anything. You can vote one time per day but of course I don’t expect you to remember that amongst the other eleventybillion things you have to do and think of in a day.
I promise not to hound you for votes on Twitter and Facebook. (Maybe just twice or so.) I’ll just put the button in my sidebar and you can vote if you think of it. While you eat marshmallows. I hope.
I know I’m being silly about marshmallows and stuff, but I do truly feel honored to be included in this category. If you’ve been around here long you know how much I want moms to be able to overcome what our minds have a tendency to do to us. It continues to matter to me more than I can say that telling my story has helped even one person.
(If you’re new here, you can find posts about my journey into sobriety and my struggle with addiction and motherhood in the “best of” tab at the top of the page.)
Thank you, friends.
P.S. Yesterday Asher asked me for something in a demanding sort of way and I said, “Don’t be a Bossy Bosserton.” And then he said, “You know, you sound like a Bossy Bosserton when you tell me not to be a Bossy Bosserton.”
Good point, ya Smarty Smarty-ton 3 year old.

Well deserved and very excited for you! The more we keep this stuff rolling and on the agenda, the better women everywhere will begin to be.
And I’m with you. Solo parenting is rotten. Particularly with boys (admittedly that is all I know!)

I voted yesterday and today. And I definitely understand the term “self-care.” It involves sugar for me usually too :)

He IS a Smarty Smarty-ton. My 2-5yo surprises me every day with her cognitive and communication skills too. And we wonder, did we teach them that? But who are we kidding really?
Congrats on the nomination. I voted!

I voted for you Heather!
I’m happy to vote for you – early and often!
You know what goes really well with marshmallows? Chocolate and graham crackers. Not to be a Bossy Bosserton, but you should try putting a piece of chocolate on a graham cracker and then putting a marshmallow on top and microwaving it for about 10 seconds and then sticking another graham cracker on top. Yummy Yummerton.

i made it through the day. and the resulting evening.
i sometimes wonder if part-time single parenting is harder. not because it IS harder … because wow. single parenting all the time … wow. but part-time single parenting gives you this sense of how things should be … and then there is all the transition stuff that occurs … when daddy is coming and going … and you are CONSTANTLY IN TRANSITION.
so … hugs to you friend … and if you want to go out for pancakes … please call.
and now i’m going to just head on over to click on your picture or the thumbs up thing … i’ll just figure that out when i get there …
