I made a #JustWrite book

November 21, 2012

As you may know, I haven’t been terribly good at promoting my own wares or tooting my horn or whathaveyou. I just don’t want to come across as all ego driven or somesuchthing.  It’s only taken me five years of blogging and meeting smart and savvy women writers/creators online to learn it’s not BAD to share what you do with the world. It’s actually quite good! So, here I am, telling you that I made my favorite Just Write posts from this past year (YES! It’s been over a year!) into an ebook. When I was in Chicago at BBC, I had the pleasure of meeting Samantha from Blurb, and listening to her speak. I got (overly) excited hearing about all the ways a person can utilize Blurb, and when I got home, I got right to working on this book and another Instagram one: This #JustWrite ebook is currently available for $9.99 and […]

Posted on Monday~March 23, 2009 Remember the Micromachine’s Man, the speed talker of the 80’s? Those commercials always overwhelmed me. I couldn’t believe he could talk that fast, so I would sit and practice talking like him and I could never do it. So frustrating. My point? This post should be read like the Micromachine Man talks. Ready? GO! We’re packing up the trusty Chevy and driving out to my parent’s this morning to stay for the week. (I know, my parents are SO lucky.) We’ll be four-wheelin, feeding the neighbor’s horses, and going for walks in the country in no time. So I’m in a hurry and apparently so is Asher: (You’d think I’d know by now not to tell my children we’re leaving until we’re in the car.) And I’ve been a little on the overly busy side these days, so I have to shoot some bullets at you. Wait, let […]

Posted on Wednesday~March 18, 2009 I met Jodi Picoult.Yup, here’s proof, right here in this picture. That’s me on your left.Jodi Picoult is right there in the middle. And The Amazing Auntie Kay is on your right.(My Aunt, not Jodi’s.) I’d like to tell you that I had a very eloquent exchange with Jodi P., like the one I had planned. In that daydream, the one I had while I was standing in line, I said,“You rock!” And she responded excitedly with, “Why, thank you!!!“ (See? Totally eloquent.) But no, that’s not what happened. Instead, I just stood there and smiled like a big freak.Even when she looked right at me and said “HI” real nice, I still just stood there and smiled.Yeah, I did that until the person who was taking the photo of us couldn’t figure out my camera. Then I said (so eloquently) “You have to look through the hole, just regular, not on […]

Giveaway Winner

November 2, 2008

My mom and dad were here this weekend. They helped vacuum and dust, clean up leaves, scrub floors, do laundry, cook, do dishes…OH! And they helped me choose the lucky winner of my giveaway. My dad even wrote down all the numbers from 1 to 68, the total number of comments. Then he drew one of the numbers:I then had to count (very carefully) through each comment until I got to number 41. That was very tiring. Sooner or later I said, “37. 38. 39. 40. 41!” And the winner is…mrs. mcb! Congratulations. You’ve won the “Rocks in the Sun” book by Troy Livesay. (If I don’t hear from mrs. mcb by noon on Monday, the 3rd, I’ll choose another winner.) (Back to “regular” posting tomorrow.) Thank you for allowing me to pop up in your inbox and for reading my words, silly or serious. I appreciate you. ~Heather

Bloggy Giveaway!

October 27, 2008

Rocks in the Sun by Troy Livesay I met more blog friends yesterday. God is really good. I can’t believe He takes the time to bring just the right people to my life via the silly old internet. But He does. I’m thankful for the chance to hug Tara while jumping up and down. Meeting her was like meeting an old friend. An old friend that I had never before met, but felt like the comfort of an old shoe. Yes, Tara. You are an old shoe. And that’s the best kind of compliment. Because you’re the kind of friend I would definitely choose to put on, familiar and broken in, as if I’d met you somewhere other than bloglandia years and years ago. You are lovely! Thank you for fitting in some moments with me in your short trip to the Minnesota. Check out the Livesay (Haiti) Web Log, people. It is […]

The blog gods were smiling on me yesterday. Okay, I don’t really believe in blog gods, but if I did, I would think they really like me. And then I would think they’re nice, and I would picture them as butterflies with brilliant colors and cute pudgy caterpillar faces. Smiling. And apparently pretty hairy. With REALLY big eyes. Anyway, yesterday was a much better day. My supportive superhero of a husband arrived home from Detroit (or, DeToilet) in the morning and sent me off to a coffee shop to spend four hours returning your lovely emails, reading a lovely book and catching up on your lovely blog posts (still not caught up, stop writing such great stuff so I can catch up, sheesh). Yes, true story. FOUR hours. I sat there by myself, plunking away at the keyboard and smiling a lot. With coffee. And some chili. I love me some chili. I […]

Once upon a time, the EO family set out to pick a winner for the EO Birthday give-away!Miles had the honor of choosing two names from the bowl.a)because he can’t read, so there would be no peeking.b) because as you can see, he took it very seriously. From the mouth of Miles

October 2, 2008

———————————————————————————————– After a bath, I look over at Miles (his bath, not mine) and he’s standing there pulling on his nipple. Hard. So I say, “Honey, that’s not going to come off.” And he says, “Yeah, I’m just seeing if it will come off.” So I say, “Those are part of your body.” And he says, “Yeah. They don’t come off. They’re not play doh.” “No, honey. They aren’t play doh.” ——————————————– After a long day of NOT LISTENING AT ALL (Miles, not me) I put him in a time-out and he starts freaking out. So I say, “Miles, I would stop doing that if I were you.” Pause. “What, mommy?” with a look of confusion on his face- what do you mean, if I were you? So I explain (really well). “You know. If I were you, like if mommy was you, I would make a good choice and listen to me.” […]

I totally screwed up the giveaway thing, dangit! OOPS. I had a little thing about a giveaway in the sidebar. I couldn’t figure out why there were no more entries since the first time I posted about it. Then I clicked on my sidebar giveaway thingy. And it went to nowhere. It said ERROR blah blah blah. SUPER. So I said to myself “OH! That’s why my sitemeter shows all these people clicking on that and yet, no one is then commenting on that post who hadn’t already….oh….I get it now….it’s because when they tried to click on the giveaway thing they were told ERROR blah blah blah. So I’m sorry to those of you who tried to figure it out and hit an immediate dead end! I should have clicked on that like maybe two weeks ago or so. OOPS. So this is what I’m going to do. Anyone who comments on […]

Today I will spend most of my day at the spa. Wait. Did I just say that? Is this a dream? Where am I? Who am I? How is this possible? Where are my children? You see, I cannot believe it. I wouldn’t imagine that my pipe dream of a day at the spa would come true at this point in my life. (I’m just too cheap, and if we had extra spending money I don’t know if I could bring myself to use it on a whole day at the spa, even if I totally deserve it.) But you see, I have this generous and thoughtful Auntie K. She gifted myself and a friend with a day at the spa! SHUT UP, you say? I know! That rocks the party. I’m a wee bit more than excited. I plan to look like an entirely new person at the end of today. Or […]

Do you wanna know what’s funny? Back when I did the little “interview” thing for 5 Minutes for Mom, I said I’d been blogging for about a year and a half. Today I took a look at the date of my first post, and to my surprise, I’m just now coming up on one year of blogging. Yup, in October. Apparently I thought it was much longer than it has been like three months ago when I answered those questions. Time is so freakin‘ weird to me. I can’t for the life of me keep track of it. You’d think it would be pretty simple, what with all the calendars and clocks and stuff around. But I actually don’t look at either of those things all that often. Anyway, I digress. (I wonder how many times I’ve typed those two words in the last year? I digress. I’d guess about 476 times, but […]
